Let’s hope not Nodge68! I’d still want to be checking it afterwards though! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

To time the crank you need to take the starter motor off and use the narrow timing pin to get the crank in the right position and then use a locking tool on the starter ring teeth to hold the crank whilst you torque up the crankshaft bolt, after checking the camshaft timing.

Yikes. The thing is I have already tried to start it with the old knackered crank sensor. So if I have inadvertently altered the timing, then the chances are I have already done the damage |

So I stuck on the new crank sensor, turns but no start. Did a hard reset but still the same. I still have the engine light on when I put the ignition on.

you need to check the timing before you do anything else remove starter and cam belt cover and check with timing pins or drill bits this is your first step to diagnose the problem these are a simple engine to work on with plenty of room just take your time and you will get to the bottom of the problem there are plenty of people here on the forum who will give you any advice you need to get you up and running again |

Thanks Boxa. I'm hoping that if I have inadvertently altered the timing that I have not damaged the valves. I will do a bit of googling to see how I can set up to check the timing. My main concern is that I will have damaged the valves. although turning over the car yesterday, I did not see to get any plinking metallic sound. Thanks for your response. |

As the MIL is staying lit, I'd be checking to see what codes are causing it.

Thanks folks. I will have a go at you tube, as I'm struggling with google. I assume that if I can set the camshaft using an 8mm pin, I will then have to figure out what position the crank should be in. |
