So yesterday, driving along at about 40mph, lost power and car cut out. Car ran for no more than 10 seconds after power loss.

Timing pins is the only way to check. Unfortunately it's an interference engine, so timing belt jumping normally results in bent valves Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Yikes. I don't like the sound of that. Any other reason that you can think of why the engine management light might have come on under the circumstances ? Thanks for your help by the way. |

If the timing has jumped, then the ECM will often register a crank / cam timing correlation error, which will result in the MIL coming on. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

The most likely cause is your shredded belt has damaged the CPS wiring/sensor. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Badger51 has a good point. The CPS wiring is very easily damaged, as it's just a few mm away from the belt which has come adrift. If your lucky, it'll just be the wiring at fault. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Thank you for the replies. The sun is out, so going to remove the wheel, and start taking a look.The timing belt was changed in 2022, about 18,000 miles ago. I will disconnect the battery while I do anything, and stick that on charge. I will keep you posted, and thanks again for all the help. |

So I can see straight away that the Aux belt has started to spread, and that the tensioner appears to be out of line with the rest of the cogs. Ie, sitting forward towards the wheel. The wires to the crank sensor look quite oiled up. Going to drop the belt off now. |

So the reason for the belt shredding is that the tensioner has started to fall apart, and split. The problem now is that I can see a bit of shredded belt poking up behind the crank cog. So now I need to look and see how to remove that crank cog in order to see what damage that has done behind the cog. |

So, I have taken off the crankshaft fully, and cleared the bits of shredded aux belt, and given it all a clean. I have given the crank sensor a good clean, and put bit back on.
