I don't see any broken rules, Jackie Stewart received his knighthood well after he moved to Switzerland in 1968, neither is he the only person receiving a knighthood who lives abroad, it seems Hamilton is in the overseas list not the UK home list and there's quite a few tex exiles in that list over the years.

I just repeat my earlier post. Lewis Hamilton's progress through the GP2 field that day, in Turkey, was brought to my notice by someone who was a Race Engineer to another driver in GP2 that day. He thought that the exceptional driving was worth pointing out, and I believe he was right in spotting these early signs of talent. Hamilton is an exceptional driver. That is worth celebrating as these things aren't usually achieved without a lot of hard work from the sports person and their team.

I suppose the big problem for motorsport in attracting young talent from ethnic backgrounds is that it is a very expensive sport- youngsters need a lot of financial support from somewhere. Jules |

I agree with Jules, as you see from a previous post of mine (then replying to Dartman)
I am familiar with this type of experience, the Team Manager/Race Engineer is a (younger) relative of mine. After a very successful Go-Kart racing start, won a years Scholarship at Renaults Single Seat Academy in France (including Formula Renault Race Season), but at the end failed to manage to get sponsorship to coincide with a team offer. However he went back to university, got an Motor Engineering Degree, and has many good years in the Motor Racing Industry. I think that team managers and principals who raced just weren't good enough, most admit it, Bernie, Frank William's to name a couple. The only one I can think of who went the other way was Graham Hill, started as a mechanic and made it to a double WDC, Jack Brabham possibly went from mechanic but not a team mechanic to WDC then team owner driver.

Surely eradicating the Klan, taking a public stand against racism, is an activity worthy of recognition? Or do you consider there is no reason to take action against the Klan, as does Donny boy? He is an exceptional driver, and uses his profile to do a lot of good in the world. Past British WDC holders have focussed on getting , getting laid and supporting their drug dealers. Hamilton could do worse. MY11 SD4 SE Auto |
