Does anyone have any experience of GPS Tracking Devices - If so can you get an Insurance Discount for a DIY fitted device.

I bought a tracking and battery monitoring device from these folks - https://chargemetrix.com/ There is a monthly charge of £4 or thereabouts and it worked very well. However, in my installation - a trailer with a small 22 Ah battery - it drained the battery too much so I’ve disconnected it for now as I’d bought it more for battery monitoring than for tracking, at least over the winter in storage.

My sons are Porsche enthusiasts and have had a total of 5 Porsche 911s between them. These have been cars retailing at about the £70k mark so not new. Four of them had trackers built in but as far as we could tell they had never been activated. The argument seems to be that if your car gets stolen then it's highly unlikely that the police will do anything about it as they have more important things to do so they wont go chasing it, they will just put it down as a stolen vehicle and issue a crime number for your insurance. The other thing is that certain cars are generally stolen to order then put straight in a shipping container (ie Faraday cage) at which point the tracking signal disappears. I guess this goes for cars like original Defenders. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
