Thinking of a change

had my freely 2years now and thinking of upgrading, present car is manual, will be looking at auto, probably hse
Obviously aware of all normal stuff to look for , but never bought secondhand with auto box, any suggestions what to look / listen for, apart from smooth changes, kick down etc

Thank
Andy

For manuals, DPF came in 2010 so all 2011 cars will have it. For autos, you may be able to find a 2010 FL2 without DPF but I think all 2011 models will have it. The easiest way to tell without seeing the car is the road tax. For autos, I think £285 = no DPF.

All the Face Lift models (MY11) came with a DPF, prior to that it was an option. Having a DPF shouldn't be a problem, I had a Freelander with a DPF for two years, you never knew it was fitted, the Disco I have had for just over two years now, apart from a throaty exhaust when it is regenerating, again don't know it's there.
Mine was a very late 10 plate, but MY11, DPF fitted.

dpf's are inevitable. no point trying to avoid unless you just bail out of diesel and go petrol

Our forklift has one,, and as you cant take it for a thrash down the motorway it occasionally asks for a manual regeneration, in which it sits stationanary in the farmyard automatically reving for about 10 minutes Rolling Eyes

emission controls are now meaning that dpf alone wont suffice and ad-blue must be used too At work

Would prefer a facelift version , but am concerned that as I only do short journeys to work and back ,used more at weekends, but have only done 10k in two years,

DPF: removal of DPF is an automatic MOT fail if car was manufactured with one.

Much better to use semi synthetic two stroke, plenty of info on forum, and give car a weekly run in sport mode if you do a lot of town/traffic driving. This benefits other aspects of diesel system as well as DPF. All FL2's (3) Gone

Am not anti dpf , but if I am going to pay a lot for the car , don't really want to have any issues , not a problem to give it a blast once a week to clear it, would consider a my11 with facelifted bumper dash etc.
Have seen a 60 reg non dpf 48000 miles local to me so will get a look at that maybe tomorrow

I have a late 2010 model facelift with DPF and don't do a huge number of miles. Never had an issue with DPF and not knowingly regenerated. It gets a long run every now and then.

Don't worry about the DPF. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

As above, tank of fuel in the Freelander lasted two weeks, a long journey for the wife was five miles, same with the Disco, the Disco hasn't seen a Duel Carrigaway let alone a Motorway for two months, still no DPF problems.
Will also add, never ever gone out just to give either vehicle a clear out just to regen the DPF, just driven normally as though the DPF doesn't exist, never given it a thought. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

the auto box isnt great, especially from pull away, however when u get going i(20mph +) ts pretty smooth.
For me, leaving in in S mode makes for the smoothest acceleration, and I found this to be the case with all (4) SD4 auto's I have had on loan.

Take one for a spin, make sure you drive it around town and get the feel for stop start perfromance.
In command shift/manual they are very responsive, and great off road.

If you are passing kent, feel free to pop in, you can take mine for spin. Always happy to share.

Oh, all the manuals I had are far superior on fuel (20-30%) better if that is a concern for you.
2nd oh, the 9 speed in the newer ewoks and D Sports is a fantastic gearbox. If only I could cram it into my FL2........

My 13MY Fl2 got serviced at 5.5k miles, DPF never gave me any problems over the year I had it. 6 of my LRs have had DPFs and never gave me any trouble, I give them a good run a couple of times a month just to help keep them clean. An excuse to escape for a bit really. Wouldn't even know it was there.

My 16MY Discovery uses AdBlue, so this will interesting to see how this goes. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Looked at a few recently, gs, xs and hse, think it will be an hse i go for, local garage has 60reg 2010 hse in ipanema sand with black leather, 48000, 16500 with I year warranty option to buy second year for 300, so a possible but not my 1st choice of colour, seen a couple on the Land Rover website for a good price but mainly up north, nice one in Chester , 20,000 miles
£19800 with premium leather, is it really worth the extra from a main dealer, is the warranty as good as they say?

Only looking to buy from main dealers now,
Have seen two on the web that look promising 62 plate 13my xs with leather and armrests, or 61 11my hse , both same price , similar mileage , one is within 40 miles , Southampton, the other is in Lincoln so three hour drive to go and look, not fussed about a sunroof and I think that's probably the only difference,
Any thoughts, is the my13 interior better than the older ones

We picked up a 63 plate GS auto the other day. Land Rover approved vehicle. 3 years warranty! 12,500 miles on the clock, and best of all no sunroof!
Well pleased!

PR,
How come it has a 3 year warranty? Did you have to pay for the 3rd year on top of the standard "used" 2 year warranty or was there a special offer?
thanks. Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer
