Except that speculation elsewhere http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-ma...model.html is that the Discovery range is going to take a price hike into what was previously Range Rover territory, and the real replacement for the Freelander will be part of the Defender family...

Quote:
The Discovery is 25 years old, and the new version will take a leap in quality (and most likely price) to cover the gap left by Range Rover as it moved up into the 」100,000 market. We also understand that the new Defender (when it eventually appears) will have to cover the market price area previously covered by the Discovery (including the ground covered by the soon-to-be-disbanded Freelander name)

Telegraph?

Thinks Telegraph have got that wrong. Previous tip-offs on here and now all over the Internet confirm 2015 launch of Discovery Sport to replace "ageing" Freelander 2 / LR2, as first model of new Discovery range.

Good to hear it should get the all new Ingenium engine range; a tad concerned that the new gizmos planned will push the vehicle beyond the means of many current/former Freelander owners, which is a shame.

I still feel dropping Land Rover from the bonnet of new models is a gimmick that will not be popular outside the LR marketing department. Rolling Eyes

How long after the launch should we wait before taking the plunge on a Discovery Sport? With Freelander 2, six months seemed about right to tease out the significant issues. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Only time will tell, but there has been a steady march upwards in LR prices in general, so a price hike wouldn't exactly be out of character.

Well I for one will be waiting to see the Defender replacement before doing anything! I'm still hoping that will be a Land Rover, not just another blinged up city car for the yuppie/yummie!

Freelander replacement has been known as L550 for some time and the weblink for the intro video has that in the URL so I think we are pretty sure that its Discovery Sport as 5 or 7 seater, probably with various driveline options (2WD?, 4WD and GKN's clever Active Driveline (as Evoque).
New range of LR's own engines will be interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing the real thing in the metal although Evoque was pretty close to LRX it was not quite and we'll have to see how much of "Vision" is carried through to start of production.
Strong industry hints that the new full-size Discovery will use an Aluminium structure like RR and RRS built at Solihull whereas L550 remains in steel out of Halewood. Timing is right to iron out a few bugs before my replacement so definitely interested and hoping they don't hike the price Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

It has always been LR policy to move all models up market with a price hike, then introduce a new model, this time could be slightly different as what we know as a Freelander and of similar price may well be a version of the Defender my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Big Cry
That sounds so CR@P. Discovery sport. They are not sports cars! (although I did do a bit of sporty rallying type business after an escaped sheep the other night.)
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
What ANOTHER naff effort by LR. Adverts generally CR@P. Now the names are pants too.

MightyMildred, I agree absolutely. But I've (almost!) given up saying it because it feels like flogging a dead horse (if a vet will forgive such an analogy Smile ) Those of us who want a 4x4 seem to be hugely outnumbered now by those who want a fashionable shopping car. I think our remaining hopes must lie with the Defender, but the noises coming out of LR in that area are not encouraging either. Crying or Very sad

I expect the base models will come in at around 30 grand with the more prestige models, with all the bells and whistles, knocking on the 50 grand mark. If my prediction is right then being retired, and self funding my motors, I will in all probability change brand loyalty. I知 with you Tenet. Next year at the grand old age of 54 I will be retired and unable to fund what I suspect will be a 」40k replacement. I will not need a 4x4 as I will no longer need to get anywhere anytime. I will be going back to an old Defender as a toy and next week the Freelander goes to be replaced by a Focus ST Estate. It may not get me everywhere but I will get to most places a lot quicker! A Land Rover owner since 1988

Nice one gstd4-e Thumbs Up

The Focus ST is a brilliant car with a lot of pace and great handling. The estate version has great practicality too. Just like my Fiesta ST-2 it wins praise for offering great value for money especially with the performance on offer. The Fiesta ST has just won Top Gear's car of the year 2013. I do worry that LR are pricing lots of us out of their brand.

FL2 replacement even if it was like for like the outgoing car it would have a significant price hike because of badge change to discovery, and as it's a new model there will be an even greater premium. So entry level will be at least 」30,000, probably more, and probably for a basic model similar to S today.

You can only conclude that some/many of us are not the new target market.
