So where are they pitching the replacement in terms of the competition - X5 or X3 or ?

Is it going to be a 2 wheel drive with an (expensive) option for the full fat version.

I would love a new Freelander or Disco 4, but the facts are that they are too expensive for me to justify. I love the brand, and would stay if I could, but my Freelander has been too unreliable and having let me down badly on a recent family holiday it has to go before the warranty expires in September.
So options are Large hatchback (Mondeo Titanium X Sport or Octavia VRS) or more likely as I prefer a higher seating position and some winter capability a 4 x 4 body style...sorry SUV Rolling Eyes

Having been supplied a Nissan X trail hire car by Land Rover warranty dept, I was impressed with the light off roading I did, the road manners and size of the interior. What let it down was the antiquated styling. Yes Nissan lacks the soul of a Land Rover, but beggars can't be choosers.
In July the X trail 3rd generation will hit the UK, with all the bells and whistles it will be around 28K. It is clearly based on the Qashqai but is much larger and has a 7 seat option. The Qashqai was 2014 car of the year so it should be good.
I am awaiting my launch invite from the local dealer...

I have to say, the new Qashqai looks like a smart bit of kit. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh CG, but these sort of comments just do my head in. I am pretty sure the guys at LR know what they are doing, so for some one to make a comment about it all being wrong and it being the beginning of the end is a stupid thing to say. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. going by some previous winners of that award, I think buying a quashqai deserves extra research before buying.

I am confused as to where the proposed Discovery Sport sits in the range....

I get that there is the FF Range Rover, RRS and Evoque.

I also get that there is the Discovery and that there's going to be a Discovery Sport.. but what's the difference between the Evoque and Discovery Sport? I know these are still 'visions' but from the outside at least they seem to cover the same ground..

Land Rover are developing 3 distinct ranges of vehicle.

Premium - Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and more to follow.

Leisure - Discovery, Discovery Sport and more to follow

Utilitary - Defender and more to follow.

There will be some cross over between the ranges much as there is at the moment between Discovery/Freelander and Range Rover Sport/Evqoue. But the Range Rovers will tend to have a more premium cabin than the broadly equivalent Discovery.

If you start getting offended about members responses and then informing them by PM that you want there comments removing, then maybe forums are not the place for you.

You are quite right about having an opinion, and know one should stop you stating that opinion. But you have to expect others may not agree and respond accordingly.

Not everyone agrees with comments I make, buy I don't take it personally and send that member a PM telling them that they have requested their comments be removed from the thread. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Saw a new 14 plate Discovery today, with 'Discovery' on the bonnet. Don't like it. It should say 'Land Rover' Mad

You're right - the car itself was lovely. Maybe I don't embrace change enough.. Just think it's a shame to see the famous brand disappearing..

The famous brand is not disappearing. Go over to one of the Range Rover sites and look at the moans about the Green Oval appearing on their radiator grills, wheels and even (heaven forbid) on the screens on start up.

Land Rover are simply developing a number of model ranges to target different segments of the market and each of the three pillars will have more models in them than there are currently.

As for Discovery on the bonnet, I quite like it and I'm looking forward to seeing the return of Defender on the bonnet of that one as well.

I have to agree totally with the above. LR have to keep up with the times and this is the future.

Regarding the puzzled question about where the Discovery Sport will sit in the range.

Evoque and Discovery Sport will sit in the range in the same way Evoque and Freelander 2 sit in the range now. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
