Another bearing on the name change, current reliability stats are still being held back by the original Freelander, re badge it as a Discovery Sport, clean slate.

Freelander to disco, out of the reliability chart frying pan into the fire. May as well think of a new name for both At work

May be not, the Discovery is becoming a brand where as at the moment it is a model.

its seem ok to trade on the disco name now , that wasnt the case a decade (or less) ago

I think a whole new name is due

VW gets away with the golf reincarnations, but apart from a very few lemons that name is worth of keeping.

on that note I see that the vauxhall viva is returning Laughing as a city car At work

Saw the new disco sport last week, looks a good size and nice shape, but it was very well camo'd up , so couldn't see any detail

My theory is that the name change may be a good thing for us. ie existing Freelander owners.

If a new model comes out with a new name, then it may not automatically make our Freelanders less desirable so resale values may not be hit so badly. When the roads are full of much newer looking cars with the same name, then it is obvious to the average punter our cars are the 'old model' rather than just a different model. And if the new replacement is more expensive/upmarket... Then that may help our resale values as well as people look to used Freelanders to join the LR family, having been priced out of the new range (?)

Just a thought... May be nonsense Razz

I completely agree with what you have said. The Freelander 2 will remain a 'current' car for years to come as it isn't being replaced with a car of the same name.

So ,any will look at it as the Disco Sport being an 'additional' car in the range. So I wouldn't worry about residuals. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Seen again

Seems like the Discovery Sport (disguised) is now travelling far & wide. I spotted it driving south on the A283 south of Steyning, West Sussex. I chased it onto the A27 driving east towards Brighton, overtook and slotted in front of it to get a better look. The LR driver appeared to notice my interest as he then flashed me. Wink

Sorry no photos as I was on my own. Rolling Eyes

It seemed to be the 5 seater version, nice shape; it's beam seemed to narrow from the window sills presumably to optimise seating width. Latest LR info I've seen says 5 seater version with new diesel engine will be model available at UK launch next year, with petrol engine versions slightly later in 2015, and then the 7 seater version. Razz Life is not a dress rehearsal!
