I have to agree totally with the above. LR have to keep up with the times and this is the future.

Regarding the puzzled question about where the Discovery Sport will sit in the range.

Evoque and Discovery Sport will sit in the range in the same way Evoque and Freelander 2 sit in the range now.

Good to know the brand will still exist in some form. I wonder what the dealers will do? At Caffyns they have two huge signs outside - one says Land Rover, the other Range Rover. Will there now be three - Defender, Discovery and Range Rover?

I guess Land Rover want the three ranges to be as well known as the manufacturer is. Still not keen though, I'm afraid. Next we'll see Fords with 'Focus' written on the bonnet Laughing

I agree with le bouch regarding the bonnet lettering - DISCOVERY just looks wrong.

And 'Sport' is not an appropriate designation for a 2-tonne 4x4 with a 2-litre diesel engine!

Yes, the brand has to move with the times, but this time they've got it wrong!

They have been doing it with the RRS for years, 2600 kgs + with a 2.7 later with a 3.0.

Yeah, I know! Rolling Eyes

The latest RRS gives it a half-decent go though.

I'm not so sure it's a bad move, since TaTa have been involved LR have been on the up, is the bubble about to burst, I don't think so.

How many times is it said on here Freelander, not Land Rover Freelander, same on the sister sites, with Discovery, not Land Rover Discovery.

I don't think it really matters - it'll sell either way. I mean, they could call a car something ludicrous like Evoque and it would still sell...

orders?

To respond to NPinks question about dealers taking orders for the Discovery Sport .................. not sure, but it is certainly possible to express a serious interest in doing so, by paying a deposit (returnable). Razz Life is not a dress rehearsal!

This all looks very interesting. JLR is banking on its next range of engines it to compete with Audi/BMW/Merc in terms of executive machines and it would be great if they found their way into the new LR's.

I'm really tempted to get one of these. When I bought the FL2 5 years ago there was just two of us. Now there are 4 and the extra room would be great. I have been tempted by the Disco 4, but I'm wary of buying now when a replacement is pretty close.

I think those that claim this is the end for LR are a little premature and ought to look at the geographical segmental sales for the company. They are simply moving with the market, but I would be surprised if they didn't still cater for the current FL2 buyers somewhere.

I remember posts on here regarding deposits, dealers were taking deposits on the Evoque whilst the LRX was being shown, iirc if you didn't like the Evoque when it came out you could use the deposit for something more suitable, Freelander, Discovery.

or .......

or simply ask for your deposit back. It is an expression of interest in a new unseen model, not a blank cheque! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

My theory is that the name change may be a good thing for us. ie existing Freelander owners.

If a new model comes out with a new name, then it may not automatically make our Freelanders less desirable so resale values may not be hit so badly. When the roads are full of much newer looking cars with the same name, then it is obvious to the average punter our cars are the 'old model' rather than just a different model. And if the new replacement is more expensive/upmarket... Then that may help our resale values as well as people look to used Freelanders to join the LR family, having been priced out of the new range (?)

Just a thought... May be nonsense Razz (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
60 000 miles averaging 35mpg

(Gone) 2010 TD4 Manual GS - Stornoway Grey. Sold at 3yrs old & 64k miles. Final average consumption 39.2mpg.
