I somehow think that if the turbo noise is as irritating as you say and the engine is definitely not as powerful then there is a problem.
Power may be slightly down on the new TD4 but torque has improved so should in theory be on par or better.
I would ask the dealer to check all piping associated with the turbo for leaks, it could be a whistle caused by an air leak, and the air leak the cause of a drop in power.
No harm in checking it out.

If you are not happy with the dealer, if it were me I would do as you have suggested and take it to TVLR and just get them to take it up the road with you, they will at least give you a second opinion and put your mind at rest, the thing is the more you think about it the more you listen for it and it spirals from there.  p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I think you should do what your comfortable with, NOT what any of us might be.

Agree with ad210358 have TVLR look at it if anything they will put your mind to rest one way or an other, Top blokes at TVLR

my freelander is a 2011 model quiet as a mouse no gear leaver shake at all when drivers window is open can here turbo whistle very slightly you may have an air leak on the intake side of the engine. take it back and tell them you would like the service supervisor to come for a run with you.

I had a vibration issue with my old one. It was felt through the entire body. Even empty passenger seat would vibrate big time.

I pushed them to get the car replaced with a new one. If you are not happy, and think that's not normal, then push them to get the car replaced. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Ok, so I've done nearly 1000 miles in Lloyd. The turbo whistle is still there, getting louder too. I'm still not convinced that I have all the power too.
Spoke to the guys at TVLR and they've booked him in to be dismantled on Wednesday. So will report when they've had a look.

I love the sound of a proper turbo! But mine sounds awful. No deep grrrrrr or even a land rover grrrrprrrrr it's more of a wssssssss.
The subaru crowd would wee themselves at the sound of my turbo!
I'm 100% confident TVLR will get to the bottom of it

I made the Lloyd team at Carlisle promise they would find her a good home. I was always so nice to her. Giving her a bath and nice polish... Only ever shouted at her once... Even that was for her own good! It's not a good look being towed out of muddy field by a 1965 Massey fergusson.

No overly noisy turbo on ours, perhaps you have a leak in one of the turbo hoses?

Have you got any where with your whistling turbo? Picked up an SD4 on saturday and it has the turbo whistle. Loud enough to bring on a headache on a long trip.

Seems a bit of a lottery, picked mine up on Monday no problems at all. Don't let them fob you off, we''l back you up if necessary.
