Has anyone used there heated windscreen in cold/icy conditions yet ? ..how effective was it ? Is it possible to have it installed at a later date ?

Have not been to impressed with the de-misting prog on my GS takes quite a while to clear the screen and its not even been that cold ! Was wondering if the heated windscreen would help with this, any thoughts welcome especially about getting it fitted now.. ..cost etc .

If my windscreen is misted up I find that a quick blast with the aircon clears it very quickly rather than just using the blower on it'own.

Haven't tried the de-misting prog yet...........ain't been frosty up here yet, sun still shining brightly  ______________________

Thanks UKdave and Paul ...would have hoped the de misting prog was more effective than the air con but will try it out next cold snap we get.

Might get the heated windscreen option anyway (depending on total cost )..not looking forward to all that scraping and de icer spraying !

Glad to hear you still have that Mediterranean micro climate in Aberdeen .... still wearing the bermuda shorts then ?

Used it once on a rented car in USA... Got like 1 cm ice in the morning and it took less than 2 minutes to have a clear windscreen... once you can get in your car start the engine and activate it.
I was so impressed that I went for it also on my LR2...

It's only when it reaches minus 5 deg C that we put our shirts back on and stop having BBQ's  ______________________

-5 deg C must be one hell of a job getting the frozen ketchup out of the bottle

That is what those gas burners on the side of the BBQ are for, to have a little saucepan of hot water to stand the sauces in, to stop them freezing.

have always wondered what they were for ... a special feature for the Scottish market

Hello Gold Stone,I had a winter pack fitted on mine from new that had a heated front screen in with it.not been used yet in really cold temps.The electrics are all there to plug in a heated screen all you need is the screen at a cost of about £250. I have a LR2GS with privacy glass and winter pack

As an aside, a/c air clears a screen that's got moisture/condensation on the inside quicker than normal air as it's very dry, so absorbs the moisture on the screen

Thanks for the info rovers have contacted my local dealer ..they quoted £359 just for the screen they are getting back to me about total cost to install , not looking promising.

Ordered mine with a heated screen because :
1)deisels take longer to warm up,
2)Had a heated screen on a rented car and it was fantastic,
3) It will increase the electrical load on the alternator and the engine will (may ?) warm quicker - working harder.

But:
I ordered a car with sat nav because I expected the wires in the screen would shield the signal when using an aftermarket satnav. ......

You can just see the wires sometimes...
Here in Surrey have'nt used it yet !!!!!
