United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Sumatra Black
Spare Wheel

When I picked up my new Freelander 2 SD4 Metro the weekend I was very surprised to see there was a full size spare wheel in the boot? The salesman beforehand had told me it came with just the usual repair bottle/kit so it was a nice surprise to have a proper wheel.

The spare is brand new and is on the Metro alloy wheel as well.

I’ve had just repair bottles in my past 2 cars and I never felt confident with them. I never had to use them, but on a couple of previous occasions several years ago when I did have a couple of punctures on different vehicles the tyre was beyond repair so the bottle would have been no good anyway.

Would the car have come with the wheel as standard or would it have been an extra? I thought all cars these days would have just the repair bottles?

There was no exclusive Metro wheel, as the Metro is just a rebadged HSE Lux

The 2013 onwards HSE Lux has the same wheels as standard.

Mine also came with unused spare wheel and tyre. The spare still has factory paper label on it.

Down under our cars come with a spare but we then go & buy a second spare, a proper puncture repair kit, compressor & TPMS. When outback you just have to keep repairing tyres as it's a long way to a garage & it's cheaper to repair it yourself anyway.

worth checking the tyre date code to see if it is legal.

manufactures say between 6yrs and 10yrs dependent on manufacture.

Spare wheel is not part of MOT, and neither is the age of a tyre.

you need to check your facts on Legal limits of tyres under Road Worthiness laws.

for a MOT, if you have a spare it needs to be road legal.
it is not a MOT requirement to carry a spare.

you checked against MOT ....... not Road Worthiness.

Worth checking with tyre manufactures.

Where is all this going?

Is it about that bus that crashed fitted with 100 year old tyres?

Can you still put grass in a tyre to get you home? Whistle

Manufacturer is not the Police. They just want to sell more tyres!

Wrong. The spare tyre is not and has never been a part of the MOT test. I didn’t need to check. I’m an MOT tester. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
