United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi Mav71,

I think there could be something wrong with your cars computer or tuning box? I check my mpg everytime I fuel up, reset the trip meter and the trip computer. When I calculate the mpg from litres of fuel used and distance covered its within 0.1 mpg of the trip computer reading.

I think there is a big difference in the quality /sophistication of Tuning boxs available. Very Happy

All box's though work in the same way though, intercepting the signal from the ECU and the box fooling the fuel pump into thinking the fuel pressure has not been reached.

I don't use a box on my FL2, it is properly re-mapped, I use the box on my Signum 1.9 CDTi. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Denmark 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

The Importer in Denmark may provide the following:

Product Name: Land Rover Free Lander 2 2.2 TD4 Stage I engine optimization - 205 Hp & 495 Nm
Part number FREEL2TD4STGI

Land Rover Free Lander 2 2.2 TD4 Stage I engine optimization - Reprogramming fuel map program in motor control (which control the fuel, air, pressure, etc.). The engine will have better bottom drag (torque), starting earlier (at a lower speed) and a higher input of approx., 205 Hp & 495 Nm which together provide a more flexible drive and a more economical engine (about 9% lower fuel consumption by same driving pattern).
A good upgrade at much motorway driving and driving with a trailer - a very good optimization --

Price: 1.100€ (8.250dkk) (Land Rover Tuning - ring and book a time in our workshop in Denmark) LR Freelander2 2,2 Td4 HSE manuel Stornaway Grey (Metallic) & Ebony Black Leather & Sun/Moon-roof & Bi-Xenon & Roof Rails & Tow bar & Body side rubbing strips & Cold climate pack & Privacy glass & NavTeq . The Freelander's Aisin Warner AWF21 automatic gearbox is designed for a max. torque of 450 Nm.
There's of course a safety factor but I wouldn't take the risk to exceed it too often.

9 % lower fuel consumption ? I have my doubts. Because of the higher torque the engine will switch to a higher gear sooner so there you can gain a bit but it's not going to reduce the consumption by such a high figure.
I don't see any reason why in the same gear and the same rpm the consumption should be lower and if you drive your car the same way as without power box, why should you buy it ?

I rarely use the full power of the FL2's engine, not when accelerating and not at constant speed . I think the performance of the engine is just great as it is and if I would have felt unhappy about it, I would have bought another -lighter- car, no Land Rover.
I prefer a very long lifetime above the extra power - but that's of course my personal idea.

I am satisfied with my car as it is delivered from the dealer, and I will not pay € 1,000 for something that is unnecessary.

It is my importer that gives notice with this on his new-born web-page: http://lrparts.dk/index.html

Therefore, it may not have negative effect on the warranty!!! LR Freelander2 2,2 Td4 HSE manuel Stornaway Grey (Metallic) & Ebony Black Leather & Sun/Moon-roof & Bi-Xenon & Roof Rails & Tow bar & Body side rubbing strips & Cold climate pack & Privacy glass & NavTeq . Hi Paul,
Where do you know that 450Nm is the maximum torque for the automatic transmission.
It is not even stated in AISIN specifications?
Please, share info since i received a tunning box from http://www.dieseltuning.co.uk/ and i still hesitate about installing it....
It is not only for their inconsistant attitude (still no VAT and promotional ammounts returned) but because the stated numbers are way too high 205ps/540Nm....

I was afraid someone would ask this... Banging Head

I'm joking nickkuts. The first time I posted this was on Nov. 27th 2007... and I don't remember the source.
I'll try to find it though and come back asap.

What I found so far:

Surching for specifications, I found on the Aisin website:

AISIN AW does not sell products to the consumer. We cannot release any information regarding product specifications, quality assurance and after-sales service of products

http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:bEEEQ1...&gl=be

Hm, not exactly what I was looking for.

Next:
http://www.aisin-aw.co.jp/en/02products/02at/01ff/index.html

This shows that their only 6-speed auto gearbox for front wheel drived vehicles has a max. torque of 450 Nm.
But, the type no. is TF-80SC and there is no trace of a AWF21.

So , is it possible that the partno. has been changed ? I don't know. Who can help ?

I found some more sources:

http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:FrFUM6...&gl=be

unfortunately, I don't understand it at all... Shocked

next,
http://archive.autonews.fr/fr/cmc/scanner/...10471.html

That's easier for me...

So the Ford S-Max and Galaxy have the same automatic gearbox as the FL2: Aisin AWF21 which has a max. torque of 450 Nm.

I also found the same data on German forums but I don't consider forums as reliable information. Rolling with laughter

(except for the freel2 one - of course) Whistle

If anyone in Belgium is interested, I can highly recommend Autotune Heinz in Aalst. I've had several cars remapped there, including a Golf 2.0tdi, BMW 335d and FL2 2.2d, always with excellent results.

According to their website, they don't sell "black boxes or preprogrammed tuning chips"

so off topic... Whistle
