Tim, how did you test your front wheel-drive. Did you dismount the prop-shaft?

From a standing start all 4 wheels are engaged then as speed increases the rear is disengaged via the Haldex I believe this to be 10 mph, then if any of the wheel speed sensors pick up a increase or decrease in speed the haldex kicks in and 4wd is instantly engaged,so basically they are front wheel drive most of the time ...

What I found now is that the prop shaft has some play where it goes into the
rear diff. We know that 1800 rpm is a problematic frequency, because they start to drone or whine 80 km/h when the bearings are bad. It might be, that the thing starts to rattle at that freqency only when the haledex is „relaxed“.

Should be a kind of a clutch? Dose it have bearings or are all bearings in the rear diff?

Just found the cause of my car wobbling/vibrating whilst accelerating in 4/5/6th gear.

My left front driveshaft was knackered. On inspecting it, it had some play and over an inch of play in the direction of the wheel, on the wheel hub side, most likely caused by the cv retaining nut being put in cross threaded and having been left there, not actually correctly tightened. The ptu side of the shaft also had hardly any grease in it. After replacing the whole shaft it now runs very smoothly, no more wobbles at all.

this defect seems identical to mine .... at 2500 rpm asking for power to overtake the car begins to vibrate and does not go up in revs, if instead I give gas progressively the car goes up in revs and does not give vibration problems ... .
