Very lucky ... don't pay for insurance as a seperate item, cover comes with the car.

Comp cover for anyone in the immediate family, which my 16 1/2 year old daughter now knows due to her overhearing a conversation with a friend. The FL2 goes two weeks after her 17th birthday so I've told her she'll get to drive it (with L plates) for those two weeks.

I can add anyone as a named driver by simple email. Seeing how flexible our system is and how little they ask about drivers and how few restrictions they impose makes me wonder why highstreet companies ask so many questions. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!
Company cars ... a thing of the past - May 2013.

Well although I thought I had cheap insurance, it is still slightly over double the average rate of £288 you guys are paying in the UK, although I got max no claims bonus to boot. High cost country and all that Whistle

There certainly seems to be a big variation from £202 to £450 in the UK so therefore it must have something to do with what sort of coverage, no claims bonus, age etc each of you have. Still what you pay does not seem expensive to me (or maybe it is Question )

Anyway back to the point of me asking!
The Top Gear test gives our Freely, a pretty fair rating on all but the Running Costs. As the FL2 is fairly economical when it comes to m.p.g. how come TG can otherwise give it such poor rating by stating that "insurance is on the pricey side" It seems to me that in this instance, TG is either poorly informed or in fact trying to find some obscure reason to criticise it. Thumbs down for TG. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

it's nice to know i pay the most in the UK for my insurance

I guess it could be the £4000 & £12500 non fault claims, actually having a effect on the policy

Though, i know my premiums higher due to the car been owned by the company, and registered and insured in my name

But since i don't pay for it, i ain't bothered Whistle

BACK TO TG

It will be on the pricey side when they say they are a top gear test driver, i recall JC saying he was a autur or something to get a premium down on one of there challenges and been quote £25000 to insure a Ford RS Cosworth costing £20000 Shocked Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

£253 per year. Me and my good lady wife only to drive (dare not ask about adding my 16 year old boy).

5 years full no claims.

Tower Insurance.

Being a 'Surveyor' bumps up my premiums I believe.

A big percentage of the policy price is also decided on your post code within the UK, I.e. London/Manchester etc alot more expensive than rural Cumbria Laughing to do with the volume of traffic (to crash in to) and the volume of scrotes (to nick your motor)

Just changed to LR from Direct Line. £300 for fully comp, business use, off road etc. Full NCD and up to 16k/yr with wife as other driver. Direct line wouldn't cover for off road otherwise very similar.

Thanks for the tip Npinks. I struggled to get the right insurance as most only offer 30 / 60 days cover.
The one I found is called "extended foreign use scheme with AXA insurance".

LL, may I ask, is your LHD FL2 registered in UK or Belgium?
I have a UK registerd FL2 which I can use across Europe for up to 6 months at a time but I'd love to find a UK insurer who would cover my Lithuania registered car because premiums here are about 3-4 times the UK rate. As I understand it UK insureres will only cover UK registered cars.
BTW, Land Rover assist only covers journeys of up to one month outside UK. Not very helpful.

Well I currently pay over £500 for business cover through direct line.

Just checked compare the market and admiral will give me the same cover for £312.

How easy is it to change insurers mid policy, i have 9 months remaining? I must be addicted:

if you have had no claims on this policy then you will just pay for time on cover, and it will be refunded to you pro rata

if you have had a claim, then no refund Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I changed part way through from Direct Line to LR. They charged me 1 months premium which LR matched. The change over was very quick and painless and the refund in the bank inside 1 week.

Go for it

Well decided to do it today, cancelled my DL policy (£530) and am now with Admiral (£313) via meerkat.

So £313 for SDP + Business , 20k miles per year, including driving in europe and loan car.

I was so impressed I checked out my (off topic) house insurance and went from £525 on DL to £279 with Axa.

Been a good day but naffed off that DL appear to hae marked my account "Make it £500 he will never notice."

Out of interest both times DL may no attempt to keep my business. Glad they dont need the customers. Car insurance cost £25 cancellation. I must be addicted:
