I like the LWB version (what we can see of it so far anyway) but this SWB one doesn't look right, proportions seem off to me.

I’d rather have the 90, the 110 has never done anything for me. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Not exactly off road sized rims on that thing & looking at one of those side shots doesn't look like any room left around the brakes on the front wheel. If they are 19 inch rims on the car that is a bit of a disaster to put it mildly. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I CAN confirm the NEW Defender .... WILL ...... have a spare wheel on the rear.

.................and the Defender is an ALL ELECTRIC vehicle, not a hybrid.[/quote]

Over the summer I met up with 'an engineer' who told me they were trialling other manufactures solutions to fitting a spare wheel to the rear door.
JLR actually bought cars (even a Freelander 1 off of eBay) and stripped them down.

I am pleased to see the result, although It does look too high, I'll have to get used to it
. Very Happy

In fairness my spare tyre looks high compared to the rear window.

This is the view I get when using the rear cam on full screen.

I wonder how they will do the pickup version which I am told is in the plans? Also can't see them Defenders appearing in Africa again if all electric, they just don't have the electrical infrastructure to charge them. Mind you if the school run market is the target then that's not an issue. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

"...they just don't have the electrical infrastructure to charge them."

That's true of huge areas of the globe - areas which used to be LR's playground.

Here's a thought : its subzero temp outside and you get stuck on a lonely road. How long can an EV keep you from freezing ? Ive no idea.

You can run an ICE for a long while just idling without using that much fuel. Jules

Lightwater - not really off-roading was it though, but very interesting all the same.

I suppose the next question is what will the range of the new Defender EV be when in low-range on rough ground.

My own experience of off-roading a diesel Defender 90 was that fuel consumption goes up massively.

Maybe you will be able to carry (eg on the roof) extra pre-charged batteries which can re-charge the car - a bit like we do with phones when out hiking/camping etc. Though they might be a bit more expensive than a couple of jerry cans of fuel.

Perhaps there will be an Emergency Petrol Generator (EPG) available as a JLR option for the intrepid EVer to recharge when lost in the outback. Smile

Its a fascinating subject but even when ignoring the price Im still finding hard to see how the new Defender EV will fill the slot vacated by its work-horse 4x4 predecessor - I think range when under load is going to be a crucial factor until technology solves this issue. Jules

Agree it is not off roading but the state of roads in the outback can almost double fuel consumption. Also the remote power is from diesel but you have to start somewhere. No one drives at night other than the odd stupid person as it is too dangerous due to the wildlife & the distances week after week. You don't travel that much each day. So overnight charging in regular outback locations would be a major step forward. There would be less of the 4 tanker road trains driving back & forth. In theory you could put charging stations along the Gibb River Road! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yeah I know - our daughter lives in Sale, VIC and there are lots of kangaroos and wombats out at night. We're looking forward to going over there again in Feb/March.
But she could easily work with an EV as the long distances she travels are on pretty empty roads with very few junctions. Its just a question of time until EVs are generally affordable. Jules
