My DS has a space saver spare. A £1500 option gives you 2 individual exhaust boxes so there is room between for the thin wheel. It's a very poor attempt though and not really built to last. I had my one out a month ago because it was looking so rusty at only 2 years old. I ended up with a wire wheel and a tin of Hammerite to tidy it up on the lower side nearest the road.

I have it on good authority that the new defender is powered by completely new technology and has a very unusual off-road capability. The power unit comprises of a wind up elastic band strung between the front and rear axles. It is wound up by a small diesel engine mounted under the rear of the car which connects to the elastic band via a starter dog in a similar way to the starting handle used on old cars. Charging, or wind up takes only a short while. There is also a smaller elastic band which is wound up in the opposite direction and is engaged to drive the car in reverse. As an optional extra is the "Air Pack". This comprises of a pair of aerofoils that can be attached to special fixing points on the roof and a propeller which attaches to the starter dog used for winding up the elastic band, thus increasing the capability of the car to go not only off road in the conventional sense but also to go off ground and fly. A driverless remote control unit is available from all good model aircraft shops.

Excellent, glad to see he stuck to our main roads If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

This option was scrapped under health and safety regulations because the propellor could over-wind the elastic band causing it to snap and twang the driver in the face. For the same reason a balloon blown up by the air current produced by the forward motion and then turned through 180 degrees to give a jet booster thrust as the air was released was also scrapped. It was also feared that noise level would exceed permitted levels if the neck of the deflating balloon was squeezed. The RSPCA also objected to this as they claimed it would encourage people to torture cats while tryng to imitate the noise to get their neigbours to think they had this expensive posh optional extra. J PS: I put loony bin into my satnav but it could not find it. |

Just be aware, it may not have a flat back, it could always be slanted (as you can see in the graphic lines).
