2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Zermatt Silver

Saying hello again although somewhere in this thread should be my first introduction.

I first came to site when I bought my ex-demo 2007 HSE back in Feb '08. I had the car for 6mths and loved it but at the time I had to sell the car as things were looking dodgy at work. Bought a *cough* used Saab 93 Estate *cough* and banked the sizeable cash difference in the emergency. Anyway 1yr later and whilst things are now looking dodgy everywhere, things on a personal level look a bit better and I was looking to buy another car. Will be keeping the *cough* Saab *cough* as the trade in value will be about £7.50 and started to look around, giving thought to the new Audi Q5. It was then that I got a letter through from the dealer who supplied my first FL2 with the offer of a £6000 discount off new (although obviously these are pre-built cars). Anyway the maths of £38,000 for a loaded Audi or £27,000 for a loaded HSE is easy enough for even me to work out so looks like I am going down that route.

So hello again to everyone and I will post details once I had placed my order and update my profile.

Luckily the HSE now comes with white side indicators so I will not be needing to repossess the ones i gave to a forumer (npicks) when I sold the old car.

TEst Drive

Hi
During my test drive of an F2 last Monday, it began to snow heavily. Anyway, we approached a set of traffic lights and I began to brake - slowly - and the ALB system kicked in. The car kept sliding and I very nearly hit the stationary car in front. I engaged the handbrake and we just about stopped. It didn't get any better; I could feel the car sliding and eventually asked the salesman to drive the car back to dealership. To be fair, a lot of cars were pulling over, but I thought the F2 would do better than most. Not a good first drive!! Just wondering...

Probably an excellent demo of the capability of standard (summer) tyres on ice/compressed snow, as I am sure our winter tyre experts will confirm. Depends how many miles the demo car had done but the tyre sipes were probably past their best for grip anyway. Not a failing of the FL2 performance as such, as a braking car is the same whether 2WD or 4WD.

Couldn't have said it better myself. You are so right.

In short: FL2 is FANTASTIC on ice and snow, but you need the proper tyres to drive on snow. Summer tyres is NO GOOD!

But you also need to know how to drive and how to react on ice and snow!

Winter tyres in winter (you do get winters in the UK as I know quite well) and Summer tyres in summer.

Summer tyres in (real) snow are as good as usless, regardless of what vehicle you are driving. Stay away from "all year tyres" especially on a 4x4, as they are poorer qualities for summer use and can be dangerous for winter use, even if they do have the M+S (mud and snow) marking.

It is well worth the extra expence having two sets of wheels/tyres in the name of safety alone, but in adition, using winter tyres in winter can in fact be fun Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Thanks for the advice re winter tyres. Can somebody tell me what sipes are? I am used to winter driving - used to live in Denmark!
Anyway, scarey test drive didn't put me off - was too impressed with the loaded spec and comfortable drive. So today I traded my much loved RAV XT4 for FL2. Whoo hoo!

SIPE = Slit in a tire to drain away surface water and improve traction.

God dag bjartin!
Him indoors has kindly offered to let me have personalised number plate. The registration F2 *** (my initials) is available, but I am worried. To me, it would be Freelander 2, but to others would it be saying F*** 2... me?!! What's the concensus on this?
