Just how high is a FL2?

My local waste disposal site has a really low barrier height of 1.8m. Vans & other tall vehicles have to use a special gated lane that can sometimes take a great deal longer to get through. I was sat waiting in this lane a few days ago and watched a succession of 4x4's pass through the 1.8m barrier, including a FL1, a Honda CRV and a huge Toyota with roof bars - this latter was either scraping through or had mm to spare at best. I am sure he must be higher than me! Now the LR specs give just one height for a FL2 of 1740mm, but does that include the roof bars (I have none) or the DAB 'sharks fin' aerial? It would save me loads of time if I could use the standard lane, but I really don't want to rip the Dab aerial off!

Anyone actually know how high a standard 2011 HSE is, or better still gone under a 1.8m barrier?

Cheers, Chris

Dab 1765mm
Roof rail and bars 1850mm
I can tell you from experience that all the dimensions of the Freelander 2 are on the large side of things......especially if your thinking of putting your car on a train holiday as I am.....even wheel track is large. MY15

I can tell you that an FL2+roof box is more than 2m. We won't go into how I know that... FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

It's both actually.....different p/n's for Dab only (1 Fakra connection) or dab/Nav (2 Fakra Connection). There's also a Nav only version.
Obviously if you have neither then you don't have one. MY15

My car with LR crossbars just touches our garage door if I am not sitting in the car. If I am in the car there is 10mm clearance! The fuel tank being further to the rear, you might gain another 10mm clearance from full to empty! Additionally I have also straightened my crossbars, so gain about another 15mm.

Next time take a tape measure with you & measure the height & you will know for sure if your car will clear the bar. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

With my fuel tanks on the roof 2.2 metres is enough clearance! Some car parks on the north coast of NSW have 2.3 metre clearance. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I once took a defender full of empty bottle to the tip. unloaded them all and it rose on suspension and I couldn't get out under barrier.

quite a problem to solve when you have a hangover Laughing

Was in the good old days then the tip was unmanned so there was just me there.

Great stories Laughing One of the pleasures of getting old as you have a few. Here is one;

Guys in the Yorkshire caving World in circa 1974 purchased a old double decker bus and set off for Nepal. At that time no one in Germany was aware they had built all the bridges too low Rolling with laughter Out comes the can opener and a few days later the coupe version set off again. Awhile back I was sent to replace some lighting at the far end of an underground carpark, forgot about extra ladders and ended up replacing quite a few more lighting units than expected to. Censored If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Top tip - if you decide to ride your bike home from the garage make sure you take it off the roof rack before handing the keys over so the "technician" can move the car onto the ramp........

Happened to a mate of mine - the technician forgot the roller door wasn't fully up on the bay - written off car, written off door and written off bike. I'm guessing his career was a write-off too..... FL No 1 - 2012 (MY2011) XS manual Firenze Red - Gone
