My second FL2 was a 2012 HSE manual TD4 2.2d.

It developed an ocassional stutter, happening a few times a week, where it felt like it lost power for a fraction of a second. It was more of an irritation rather than a minor issue. The dealer had it in several times and after the third or fourth time, to my complete amazement, told me that it's a known problem and that Land Rover didn't have a fix for it. I asked them to trade it in so that I could buy a new car and they refused, saying that they already had two or three around the back (with exactly the same issue) and they didn't know what to do with them!

I hope it's not the same thing but, if it is, I'd ask LR if they ever fixed that issue (this was back in 2014) and if they didn't, live with it - there's no fix Sad

We were thinking of getting a newer FL2 as ours has 175k, and I am racking up 30k a year - forget that now.
Ours works, Ok bits are tired, but they can be replaced, but known faults with no known fix Censored

And no Clementine was not leaving the Family, Gill only manages 2-3k a year so a none DPF diesel would be just fine for her. Looks like she will get a new car instead. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Mine has done 106k and this fault is starting to irritate me. Could really do with an idea of what is causing the problem. Weirdly, it will start and run erratically, missing etc. I can then drive it down the street, stop and it will idle as if nothing is wrong. 100yds later its all lumpy and erratic again Crying or Very sad Big Cry Crying or Very sad

Another update

I have changed the air filter and disconnected the MAF when the car is at idle with no change. I have also filled up with premium fuel, added injector cleaner and driven close to 300 miles in one trip, mostly at motorway speed.

Was told it could be a split air hose but don't see how that would cause it to misfire. Since the day it happened, it hasn't misfired since, just idles badly.

Any ideas anyone?

So far it has fixed itself. It is idling smoothly. There is an occasional minor 'miss' and a sort of squeal when accelerating but nothing compared to previously. As it doesn't have symptoms, the garage I took it to said they can't fix whatever happened! Now joined the RAC Laughing

get the rac to plug in to it ,and they can advise on stored codes, that maybe are there now after a while ,as the ecu has been trying to correct the fault .its only a matter of time till the man light comes on then there will be a code is stored.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned as I haven't read the entire thread..
Could be a stuttering or sticking EGR valve.
Blank it off (if you haven't already) and take the car for a long hard drive to clear out some of the carbon build up..

Also worth checking the throttle valve for carbon build up.

Don't forget that blanking off the egr on a 2011 facelift model with DPF will fail the MOT if you leave it like that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

I've just purchased a 2014 Freelander SE and it's having this issue also, as did my 2011 XS.

Is there any end to this potentially dangerous fault?

This fault is supposed to be temperature dependent so as the weather warms up..... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

Problem solved - Caused by the throttle position sensor

Hi,

I have had a similar problem with my LR2 TD4 2011 with 80,000 miles. It was hesitant when pulling away so much so that I had to think twice before pulling out at a roundabout. It would hesitate then suddenly pull off. It felt like a contaminated batch of fuel but persisted. It seemed to be related to driving style, if you are heavy on the right foot it wasn't so evident. No fault codes etc.

Having seen this post it appears that everything engine wise and software has been explored so I looked towards the only remaining component the throttle position sensor. Presumably it is a variable resistor and these can wear out. Couldn't quite see the part number when fixed to the car but was able to take a picture with my phone, purchased second hand throttle pedal from auction site for £17.50. It is fitted wiith 3 nuts and an electrical connector, took less than 5 minutes to replace.

Car is now smooth and running perfectly.
