United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Fuji White
2011 facelift 150bhp engine with intermediate missing

This car has suffered from intermediate missing from new between 1000 and 2000 RPM. It has been back to the garage 6 times without a fix. Has anyone had a similar problem and or know how to fix it. Have travelled a lot with my job now looking to do other things and enjoy myself.

Had similar problem on my 12my car, more noticeable when outside temp 15 deg c or above. Initially thought it was sticking EGR valve, dealer had look at it and found small split in turbo to intercooler hose, new hose fitted, touch wood been ok now for last 2 weeks

How much was the hose and fitting?

I think I have something similar on mine, does it feel like the engine suddenly looses power for a short amount of time?

It happened to me once when I pressed resume on the cruise control, was in 6th gear and just as it got to 70 jolted and cruise turned off, pressed cruise again and same thing happened, couldn't replicated it under the same conditions and same bit of road.

The only other though I had was some kind of problem with the turbo wastegate as I sometimes hear a squeak from under the engine when lifting off but suppose this could be air leaking?

I have had a problem on 2011 XS 150 Man 29k miles , it was similar to a slight misfire and was pronounced under 50mph especially say trying to drive at a steady 30 mph
Recovered twice in past month- been in Dealers total of three weeks, initially it was in my imagination !!! now diagnosed as EGR valve, that was replaced, engine then showed problem with turbo that has been requested but they cannot get gaskets for as out of stock. 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

That sounds like a bit of clutch slip. I had that problem too exactly as you describe it, and after much trawling on this site eventually found what sounded about right. I did nothing about it, it continued for a short period and the problem eventually went away. I've had no other problems with the clutch even though I tow a horse box twice a week.

Mine also at the dealership today for what sounds like a similar problem - MY11 SD4 HSE. Brake to 10-20mph then accelerate and experience a brief misfire/hesitance/judder. Sometimes happens also when just cruising along.

Guessing your SD4 is an auto so that rules out clutch slip for you.

I thought mine could be clutch slip so will see how it goes, its in for a service next week so will get them to check over the turbo side of things as that squeak from from the engine compartment is ominous.... I hope it isn't haldex problems...

Dealership just called - leak in intercooler hose is suspected for judder, but they also want to replace the rear diff as that is making a slight noise. Mixed feelings about that, good that they found it and will replace it without question, worrying that it needs replacing at 23k miles.

Also pointed out rear brake pads very worn and tyres, which I knew about. Am having them replace the brake pads as it seems easier whilst they have the vehicle.

Asked them to check the volumetric alarm, after the long thread about it, and it's not working, so they are replacing the battery backed sounder (or something like that). Would encourage everyone to get theirs checked, since it seems pretty common for them not to work.

Sorry missed this reply. Thanks for the feedback.

Diagnosed as 'boost hose from intercooler to throttle housing leaking, replace and retest for judder' (£151.44). Technician believes the problem is mostly resolved and I agree, but they were not happy that it had been fixed completely so have submitted a TR to LR for further advice.

Pcheaven, what was the solution, replacement, or there is a repair available?
