HI, I have just had this problem fixed on a 2009 manual. It was stripped splines in the bevel box coupling, and the differencial had to be rebuilt as well. If yoursa is a later auto, I have a 2009 Volvo V70 T6 which hangs first gear and lets go with a Bang! It is wear in the valve block in the gearbox. AisinWarner have a service paper on it. One cannot change the filter as one has to strip the box to change it behind third gear. An oil flush might help. The Volvo is chipped, and I do not want Volvo to re-flash back to standard. The Haldex does lock and Chirp when it needs a service, just had it done as well. A sticky hand brake destroyed my transmission.
