Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

I would not normally do this, but due to the Sydney storms had to buy roof tiles urgently. Did 3 return trips across Sydney. Loaded the car as forward as reasonably possible. First trip 456 kg, second go 570 kg, & again 678 kg, plus the best part of 90 kg for the driver & 20 litres left in the tank on the third trip. Drove very gently & carefully avoiding our potholes. The car perform very nicely. There was barely the slightest hint of extra load with the 2.0L Ford Ecoboost engine, & steering was basically no different. Absolutely brilliant, actually even more comfortable with the extra weight on board.

Years ago driving a 1 tonne truck with 500 kg on board. 25 km/h max & the truck was all over the road, how it was rated at 1 tonne was beyond all comprehension, frightening stuff, never again! We actually loaded the 1 tonne to test its capacity & it was stuffed at about with about 750 kg & at 10 km/h felt life threatening. Freelander at 80 km/h for a few km, mostly 60 km/h speed limit, brilliant, just made sure I had extra safe stopping distance, but quite frankly there was no issue! The car was pretty much level, maybe just a cm lower at the rear than the front, love that 265mm unloaded height.

Average speed 40 km/h 13.4 L/100km (21 mpg) still with a lot of start stop & hills in Sydney, AC on etc. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Now, after in our my 13 td4 XS with about 32000, we're getting 41 mpg on td4 XS.
Driving has mostly been mixed urban/motorway with a few trips off road to collect wood etc. Quite a lot of load carrying as well so I'm quite happy with it. Engine has got smoother and quieter as well.

It's always an interesting post. Some of the early posts indicate much lower mpg figure, so there is a definite improvement over the years!

I've had my Td4 auto for 3 days, and on the 250 mile journey home from Manchester it averaged 36mpg doing 80-85mph. I reset the trip computer having left the M1 and driving more sedately, and by the time I arrived home it was reading 44.4mpg. Now home and driving very short journeys around town it's currently reading 33mpg.

I shall be doing a brim to brim test to see exactly what I'm getting.

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Fuji White

Well I have had my Freelander 2 sport sd4 for a few weeks now and done a fair bit of driving in that time and I am averaging about 38-40 MPG I have zero'd the trip whilst on a steady run down the A9 sitting at 60-65MPH and the average on the trip remained at 52MPG for some time. I was gobsmacked with that, but as soon as you throw in some town driving its back to 40. Still I can't complain with the MPG at all. The car is going to get terra cleaned in a month I think so will report back if there is any difference, apparently I should see a few MPG of an improvement. Regards

Alan

Hi Kenmaro,

I live in a village called Tegryn about 3 miles from Crymych.

I'm the West Wales rep of the Discovery Owners club and our next monthly meet happens to be this Thursday from 19:30 at the New Inn in Pentregat about 10 miles North of Cardigan.

You're more than welcome to join us as most of our members have Freelander 2's these days.

There are only a handfull of lanes left in Pembrokeshire so we usually head up to Ceredigian and do lanes like Strata Florida, Nantymoch and a little further North to Happy Valley.

All are driveable in freelander but I would avoid Strata after rainfall.

We occasionally do some extreme stuff in Brechfa Forrest which might be a bit extreme for a Freelander.

We have a few members in your area, Brian used to live in Goodwick but now lives in Spittal and Tim lives in Trefyn.

If you're free come along all welcome.

Andy. Green Discovery 300tdi Modified,

We meet at around 7:30 on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

We have our own forumn as members of the DOC. Most of the website is restricted to DOC members but the pub-meet section of the website is open to non-members

Correction- I've just checked and it will only let you in to the non-members section of the forumn Sad Green Discovery 300tdi Modified,

France 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Stornoway Grey

I've just done 1,700 km from Brittany to Belgium and back towing a 1,425 kg 4 berth caravan almost all the way on cruise set to 95kph (59 mph) with an overall fuel consumption of 12.6 l/100km (22.5 mpg) which I thought very good.

Apart from that run, I've done very few miles in the car but the 100 km dual carriageway trip from the dealers returned 7.2 l/100 km (39 mpg)

From Highest Gear to 1500rpm.

A bit counter-instinctive but I've abandoned my adherence to selecting the highest gear possible and gone for a method of 1500 rpm.
it's gone from 34.7 to 38.2 mpg.
I reset the average mpg before leaving my house and drove about 15 miles as a round trip. No dual carriageways and mostly congested streets (Tynemouth to Delaval if you wanna check the route) lots of stopping/starting queues and traffic lights.

I am somewhat surprised.
