United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

600 mile trip from Kent to Grenoble, managed 34.8 in the MY 2010 auto, mostly at a moderate pace in the dark.

But, after a few days driving in the mountains, and sitting on the speed limit for most of the trip back in daylight , that fell down to 30.5.

i am quietly impressed with the SD4 engine when compared to my old TD4

My trip down from Leeds to Burton On Trent was 38.7mpg, which a lot of 50mph roadworks

My trip back up yesterday from B on T again slow going 50mph to 75 ish and returned 42mpg, with 3 adults a child and a dog in the car

my TD4 used to get high 20's to low 30's on the same journey Confused

Those road works do wonders for fuel consumption!!

Previously I have not bought the better fuels on offer, but the past few fill ups I have avoided supermarkets and gone for the best desiel available from the likes of BP, etc. and have seen a calculated mpg improvement of 1.5mpg. I will be continuing the current regime for a couple of weeks then trying TSO to see if that has any effect. Tick over appears smoother as well.

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

Last 884 km (2091 total, still a young engine)
Average speed 33 km/h
15.1 L/100 km (18.6 mpg) according to the car.

140.793 Litres
15.927 L/100 km (17.7 mpg) according to receipts. About 5% difference!
140.8 cents per litre 98RON

I think 15.927 L/100 km is not too bad. Most of the driving is hilly terrane with a lot of intersections & mostly short trips. AC is on all the time.

The Si4 will take 91-98. Only put 98 in it.

My previous car I had long enough to compare 91 to 98. Initially for years I only put 91 in it. The extra price of the 98 worked out to be more economical than 91. The car didn't drive any better other than better milage which was very slightly more economical using the dearer fuel. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Slovakia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Lux Auto Ipanema Sand

I have a 3.2 i6 engine on a 2007 car

Average fuel consumption is 20.5 l/100 km (13.8 miles/gallons UK)
Average speed 19 - 20 km/h (12 miles/h)

The car has only 49.000 km (~30.000 miles) with full history of service in Land Rover Dealership every year. I have checked tyres, oil etc. and usually the air con is off. It usually runs on Shell premium fuel.

In my opinion the consumption is very high because my driving style is as fuel efficient as it is possible inside the city.
Is anyone else experiencing so high fuel consumption? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to improve it more than that?

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

@ al.papado I do a lot of driving in town/heavy traffic and currently averaging 23 mpg @ 19-20 mph with an SD4. If you are only averaging 12 mph and the manufacturers Urban figure is 18 mpg, 12.8 mpg sounds about right for this time of year.

On a side note my average for the last year had been 28 mpg 85% town/30mph zones but for the first time with this car I filled up with Tesco fuel, parents 18p/litre voucher couldn't pass it up. I reset the trip computer and was shocked at 22mpg for the next 70 miles. Shocked

Was getting 26mpg last year when I checked same journey. Took it on the motorway and was reading 52mpg after 20 miles Very Happy and was still @ 45 mpg after 70 miles with a fair bit of mixed driving.

Now back down to 23.6 mpg after 400 miles. Don't think it's the supermarket fuel, must just be heavier traffic.

I don't think the 3.2 i6 is underperforming at those speeds - that seems about right comparing with other petrol engines of equivalent displacement in my experience. Thumbs Up

Australia 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Barolo Black

I live in a country town in Australia and the 2011 SD4 diesel is giving a consistent 7.2 litres / 100 km (39 UK MPG) on long country runs. I stick pretty much to the 100 kph speed limit (60 MPH) and the roads are generally quite flat. I'm happy with that fuel economy especially as the SD4 is supposed to give a slightly worse fuel consumption than the TD.
Thanks,
Ross
