I really don't like the radio or satnav in my 08 freel2 so fitting after market unit(s) is tempting. Any info would be great

help on fitting

i am struggling with fitting this. main reason is replacing a 2007 factory sat nav wiring is confusing and instructions are rubbish

i stripped bak to the aux socket behind the handbrake viewed by removing the rear audio control plate for earplugs but this is already plugged in i guess with the factory install. Plus the kit does not seem to have the same powe plug as the factory socket Big Cry

Hey mate.

Dont confuse these factory replacement units with factory original. I honestly dont expect a single plug will be interchangeable. In essence it should be a case of finding a switched live possibly a permenent live as well and a ground. Sound will be delivered by leaving your radio on the aux setting and if you want the wires hidden then youll have to cut the aux socket off and solder the aux out from the new unit in to it. Then run cables to somewhere for gps, most people would opt to place it in corner of screen rather than running to the roof.

I looked at this unit before getting my gvif. Ultimatly i decided as i already had a functioning sat nav setup in my car and just wanted to add rear camera i chose the gvif.

If your no good with wiring and dont want to pay an auto elec to do it for you. Id say you may be better flogging it on and hitting ebay for a replacement nav unit. Not trying to put you off but a little mistake can spell trouble when it comes to electrics.

thanks Col1nw3bb I am probally a bit cautious but lots of good points thanks. I can see that brown lead is label handbrake and the pictures show cuttiing into the handbrake cable with red connector connector clip which is guess is the switched live comes from and then run the cable under central console up under gear stick up through the console and up to unit. Then there is some instructions on connecting aux cable which gets confusing.

All the handbrake cable does is stop you watching a movie while driving. So connect it to the handbrake as advised or connect it to a switched live if you wish to watch films on the move 😏

Can you post a pic of the aux cable bit in the instructions as there are no pictures when i click the link.

New Nav

I hope it works better than the OE LandRover Rubbish my XS has in it.

Will somebody please make a Garmin LMT unit that fits in place of that waste of space mid dash screen.

Ok i assume the red and white phonos are aux out. So you need to either cut the ends off and solder an extension direct to the aux plug wiiring in centre console. Or buy a phono to 3.5mm headphone jack lead and two female-female phono adaptors (maplin or ebay) and plug the headphone end straight in to the freelanders aux socket.

Not sure about that since the have left and right labels on them. The brown single wire in the batch of non teminated cables has handbrake on it. I will try an get better picture later today so you can see labels on them but off out now. Once again many thks for help on this.
