I used one of the bolts behind the glove box as an earth stud, as for the piggy back fuse, the first one I had I made myself and thus it needed to be the correct way round, I imagine this is still the case with the bought piggy back fuses.

Hi you need a cigarette lighter socket , most motor factor stores , inc Halfords have them, into which you plug the USB adapter that comes with TT . Do not cut your USB cable Connect live wire from cigarette socket to your piggy back fuse and ground wire to car body.If you mount cigarette socket in glove compartment you can easily disconnect USB and connect to laptop for updates. |

Thanks for that, that makes a lot of sense.

This type of socket is wired into the fuse box, actually it's not wired but use one of the piggy back type fuses detailed earlier in the thread, this makes it a plug in affair without touching or breaking any wires.

Not wishing to muddy the water, but I think the Garmin nuvi 2797 is also worth a look - it has a 7" screen that is an exact fit in the cubby hole. The wiring, I think, would be the same as for the TomTom. |

Cheers for that. Perhaps I will fit a dummy shark fin on the roof! |

Just to say that I don't think the TomTom is picking up the best possible signal in this position. I found that it was important to plug it into the laptop every so often and update the software (there is a program that locates the satellites and this gets updated. Forget the name but it's mentioned above somewhere). Easy to do this if you have the unit plugged in in the glove compartment as described above - just unplug from socket and plug in to laptop. I also found that very occasionally the internal battery would discharge. This means you have to press the "on" switch on the back of the unit to get it to start up. Only happened to me a couple of times.
