non start/trip reset

I know there have been references to this in a number of threads, but I can't seem to find a definitive update on a solution...

After 2 weeks of extremely enjoyable ownership, I had the non start issue for the first time today. After ejecting and replacing the key it started, but the trip, average fuel, average speed etc etc all had reset.

I know others have had this problem - what has your dealer response been ?

Thanks

BG

Not much further on I'm afraid. It continues to be an occasional occurrence, it has even happened on the dealers premises when I picked the car up after towbar fitment (and on that occasion the the non resettable mileage read out actually lost a mile - no one was available to check the car over when that happened) it has since happened one further time so that's twice in the last two weeks!

My attitude towards this fault (driven back lack of customer service) is that as long as the car is running I don't want it to go back until they have a firm answer as to what the problem is. It's such a bloody performance getting a loan car from them that it really becomes an obstacle to getting the job done properly.

On the subject of loan car, the dealer will offer a loan car for a job that can be done in a day (24hrs) but beyond that they put you in a hire car (provided by Enterprise Rental) which involves me filling out all the bloody paperwork, me paying the £50 security deposit. and me taking the risk on the cost of damage while using the hire car. Like I say all cleverly designed to put you right of parting with the car......

Mine did it today, came up with a HDC fault warning, wife said she tried taking the key out but had to wait 2 minutes before the car would eventualy start.

Was told that the system does not liked to be rushed, should put the key in and give a second or so before pressing the start button. If problem happens again was told to lock and unlock the doors.

Salesman said it has also happened to him so appears to be a known fault/part of the electronic check control??

I agree, I think I've noticed that when it does happen its when I've "been a bit quick' about inserting key and straight onto the start button; I'm trying very hard to slow down this routine, when I've experienced the problem its usually when I've forgotten to go slow .....

You need a check list like D3 and RRS owner use to avoid lots of bongs and a failed start................ enter car, insert key, put on seatbelt, wait for pre-departure check bong to sound, start engine! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen

Sorry to say this guys, but I had my first reset couple of days ago. No other problems till now (1500km on clock). The reset took place just after I started the engine. Heard a beep, look to see what's wrong and there it was. Trip computer and trip counter reset, nothing else (hopefully).

Apart from this and a few creaks(mainly from behind the facia and codriver's seat(!!)) which is too little to bother at the moment, all is well and I just can't get enough driving with my LR2.

OK I've gone a couple of weeks without a reset, then I get 3 within 48 hours ...

I'm being very careful about starting 'quickly', so I know that's not the issue. But its getting to the stage of being bloody annoying. I use the trip for info about fuel consumption and miles traveled. I have to keep mileage records for work (and the inland revenue), the easiest thing to do is just reset the trip for works journeys, but its getting to the stage where that isn't reliable enough, so now I have to make a note of the odometer totaliser reading on most journeys, a pain in the backside !!

Has anyone had any positive response to this problem form their dealer ???

I had my first failed start/trip reset after just 500 miles.

I may have been a bit quick to try and start it this morning but I noticed something else.

Last night I was attempting to reset the clock as the clock and sat nav time were about 2 and a half minutes apart. I would change the time via the clock, switch the ignition on and off and the sat nav time would change - but would always lag by 2 and a half minutes. Gave up and went indoors.

This morning, failed start and a trip reset, BUT the clock had lost 30 mins but was now in sync with the sat nav.

When I did start the car I changed the time and the sat nav stayed in sync.

I have one definative answer that suits me at least Mr. Green .... you may have read my postings on 'intermitent electrical faults' of which this was just one of the faults.

My dealer is having the car back and replacing it with a new one so I am having to wait until July for the reorder to arrive.

I have been told that if you do not depress the clutch fully the "transmission fault" warning problem can occur!!?......... Whistle .......... Rolling Eyes .......... NOPE!!! She just simply does not start - no fault warning. I too had been told it was because I was too quick pushing the start button..... Whistle ......... Rolling Eyes .......NOPE!!! as I purposely waited several seconds and it still did it.

My dealer was good with loan cars either from service dept loan car, or sales would give me the demo cars if service had no loaners free. The last reason I was given for Transmission fault was "early cars were missing the full download and the dealer upload patches do not work" Since the car was returned on five occasions for repairs and is still suffering, they agreed to replace the car (five returns in eight weeks, off the road ((not on mud on a ramp!!)) for two of the eight weeks).

Just Bow down the new one is better.....still love the car though!! Thumbs Up

I've read all these threads so I thought I'll be really careful when I get my motor... Well just 6 days into ownership and 150 miles I had the non-start trip reset thing! I thought I would add this note to the forum for completeness to highlight the fact that it appears to be a recurrent problem with the vehicle at the moment. Other than that its a wonderful bit of kit - must go now and clean those wheels again.

Elephant,

I have now clocked up 1500 miles and only had the reset once (post above).

After taking it easy I now just jump in, shove the fob in, put my foot on the brake and hit the start button. Works every time (touch wood)!

No problems at all with the car now and I love every minute of driving it.
