mine was the opposite, it took me ages to free the filter from the canister, and I was wondering if it had ever been changed !!

When I changed the filter on my Golf diesel (which is the same type as the FL) the top came off without the filter element 'clicked' in place and remained in the housing so I just lifted it out. On closer inspection, the main dealer technician (read probable first year apprentice ) that carried out that service for the previous owner had broken one of the 8 or so plastic tangs that forms the 'clicky' part of the assembly and it was laying flat on the housing cover as it had been trapped between the filter element and the underside of the cover. If that small piece of plastic had managed to find its way into the oilway......well, you know what could have happened. Just be sure you haven't done that to yours. Sleep well! |
