Inherrent Landrover Design Fault?

I do hope that Mike at Landrover reads this.
.
With the number of us Forum members having to buy new arch protectors, me included, I thinks its about time Landrover acknowledged that they have a design problem in that the choice of material is categorically wrong and not fit for purpose.
.
The protector is I guess extruded using a plated mild steel spring spine and that it is cut to length as required. The exposed unplated steel begins to corrode and then the corrosion creeps up inside the outer rubber moulding.
.
Landrover need to either mould the ends over somehow or choose a much higher plating spec for the internal spine.
.
Mine has degraded before I bought the car and has then allowed corrosion of the bodywork seams. Its just a pity that I don't have extended warranty with my car.
.
Mike, please do something for us owners, even if we have to buy an uprated specification set of edge protectors.
.
Sorry its a grumble post but I do think that it needs the manufacturer to sort out.
.
Kind regards from Fred.

When I fitted mine a few years ago - I used a rubberised mastic stuff and sealed the ends myself to the best I could...

But I do think the pricing of the lengths is an absolute Joke - considering my original comments in the other topic about the use of the slightly longer options - saving, then, £12 + VAT

At the end of the day it's all cut off the same roll!!!!! 2002 Honda VFR800

Hi Mike mine will be on its 3rd set when they arrive from Dan The main dealer even refused to replace them when I got the car as the extended warrenty did not cover them or the sat nav and a load of other stuff so it was a waste of money paying for it.LR must make a lot of money keep selling them.

Worth noting that the MY 13 (and possibly earlier) now have a new design of wheel arch protector. There is now a round-section rubber sealing strip (like a door seal) on the top side. Don't know how much it helps - maybe it keeps some of the muck out and protects against corrosion. The panel is the same so the two should I think be interchangeable. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

When i replaced mine, put a dab of black hammerite on the exposed aluminium on either end of the strips. Should stop water getting in and the same happening again. Or at least slow the process down a bit.

Very Happy

I've recently got two more arch strips from Dan.
.
I first jet washed the arches before removing the old rubbers then jet washed the rear if the arches again andj
Jetted the old rubbers. The following day I t cut and waxed the arch return edges.
.
Next I fitted the new long strips to the front wings after a good blast of aerosol Waxoyl type sealer through the slot and squirted plenty up each end so it dribbled out on installing.
.
I used another new long one for the long rear top , cutting to fit tight and then trimmed the old 'long' front one to fit the rear 'short' position.
.
A day later I used wax again around the edge paintwork to clean off the solidified Waxoyl.
.
Hope this might help someone.
.
Kind regards from Fred.
