Er, CG - there was a queue of about 6 vehicles behind me coming out of Keswick towards Penrith on the way home but there were dozens in front of me behind a coach struggling uphill at less than 40mph. Not all queues are due to us!

Avtur - I was also a bit sceptical about the mirror issue and used my existing ones which are perfectly adequate. I see plenty of people towing (not just caravans) without mirrors so I feel quite happy that my outfit is fine, especially as I am meticulous about noseweight and proper loading etc.

As for my F2, what a vehicle! It towed magnificently and is just a pure joy to drive. The guy on the next pitch had a big 08 plate Honda 4x4 but it was my F2 that took the eye of most people! I just hope that it proves to be as reliable as the Japanese cars are.

Today I saw something I never want to see again .............. a tractor towing a c van.

And as for the subject of Japanese reliability my mothers Toyota Yaris (black no towbar) needs a new clutch at 3000 miles .. mind you she does slip the clutch more than anybody I know, yet her VW polo survived 4 years of her abuse no worries  At work

can you claim on the warranty for the clutch, then chop the car in for a automatic  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Claiming on the clutch is sort of tricky as the first thing they will say is "you held the foot on the clutch to much". Finally if you argue long enough and the problem did not arrise just before warranty was finished there are good chances that you might win. At least this is what they do over here. My brother had this problem with his VW and it took a lot of shouthing to have it sorted out.

It keeps my dad quiet he was going on about Japanese reliability when he bought it. He is very demanding though, the polos air-con need re-gassing after 3 years and he thought that was outrageous.(nothing else broke on the car)

What weight caravan do people tow with their FL2s?

I haven't bought one yet but it is something that we've been discussing doing for a few years. Getting some quality weekends away with the kids before they get to old.

I do find it disappointing to see the negative sentiment towards caravaners on this site. To my mind whether you choose to tow a caravan, speedboat, jet ski or whatever. We should be celebrating the versatility and capability of the car that allows us to do all of these things. It is a LAND ROVER after all. How many different uses have they been put to over the last 60 years?

I tow a Sterling Europa 540 '07 which is about 1500kg, without a problem, though mpg does drop to 23-25mpg when its fully loaded.



If you require any advice on the purchase of a new caravan i am quite sure many on here will be able to help you out.

I tow at 1450kg ... great fun, no problems ...
