I tow at 1450kg ... great fun, no problems ...

Van is a Fleetwod Sonata Melody (built by Adria (in Slovinia I think) and finished in the UK by Fleetwood)

Does someone tow it all the way from Slovinia or does it come flatpacked? Just imagine your van arriving flat packed 'Ikea style' with a tiny useless allen key and most of the fittings missing Laughing At work

The only feature I know that I want in a caravan is double bunks for the kids in an area that can be sectioned off. I was thinking that a 6 birth (4 bunks and a double) might be good so that the kids can have a friend along. But that seems to push the weight up to ~1700kg.

What brands are regarded highly for quality and which aren't?

One of the other models in the FLeetwood Sonata range has the double bunk layout take a look ....

http://www.fleetwoodcaravans.co.uk/caravans/sonata/prelude/

tips the scales at1400kg, same as mine, so you hardly know its there.

This range has the wider body style, explores max permitted width you can tow (2.29 metres if I remember) Many vans do, its worth keeping this in mind it helps with interior space.

That looks like a good option. I also happened across the "Elddis Crusader Superstorm". Which seems to have two sets up bunks in a rear bedroom which might be good.

I think we just need to get down to some caravan dealers and see what we like.

"Elddis Crusader Superstorm" Shocked now then don't take this as caravan hatred but who gives them these crazy names? At work

You have to think about your family too, or possible family

My first van was a brand new Europa 525, this had the side dinette, which made in to bunk beds, and somewhere to have your breakfast without setting up the front larger table. We found that when our son was born 9we bought the caravan whilst she was pregnant) the dinette became redundant as it was always made into a bed. So a year later i swapped it for the 540 which has bunk beds fitted at the rear. We also have the side dinette too but lost the walk in bathroom.

Lots of people prefer fix beds when kids ain't involved, but if this is the case think about grandkids coming to stay with you, my ma & pa had a fix bed and had to put the youngster on their bed till they went to sleep then move him at the risk of waking him up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The awning tent has many uses, that's where I get sent after a few beers !!! She tells me its because of the snoring, but I'm asleep so I wouldn't know !!!
