So that about right for 20mpg, without doing the maths, I get around 300 at 24 and 340ish at 26mpg

Driving like granny should not lower your mpg though, but it will take time for the gear box to learn the new driving style

Are you using supermarket fuel, that could be one issue, when I started using Shell, mine increased a little due to the better fuel

Going back slightly to your original question, a remap might increase the mpg, but most people use the additional power which nils out the benefit Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Perhaps some technical attention and a diagnostic check may be a good call, prior to spending anything on a re-map. It would be a shame to waste the money, if there's an underlying problem causing the poor economy.

I'm thinking something is amiss, a check might help, other things like checking for excessive heat on wheels for binding brakes etc, Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I see yours is an auto ! When you pull away is it very quick off the mark or a little sluggish ?
Mine was always pulling away in 2nd gear which did make it return about 23 24 mpg this was due to a fault.
Landrover failed to spot in 18 months of complaining of flat spot and hesitation and sluggish to drive !
When you pull away 1 st gear should be very short and a faint whine can be heard before it slips up another gear
You could try pulling away in manual mode and pull the lever back and make sure 1st is displayed on dash and see if it feels quicker than normal.
With an auto you need to drive gently and keep the revs down below 2250 and it should return 33+
Autos also adapt to your style of driving so if you drive it swiftly it will have higher change points. It takes between 50 and 500 miles to re-adapt.

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Fuji White

Used my SD4 auto yesterday in Aberdeen around town (it was cold) and noticed my mpg was 20.

Only travelled about 4 miles so treat it as running a car with cold engine and payed the price, not that 4 miles is going to break the bank! But if I was doing this all the time I would understand having poor mpg!

Crikes Shocked my Triumph Stag gives a better return than that! And it is a V8 Bow down 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'

SD4 HSE Fuji White (my car): sidesteps, door protection
Golf 2.0 tdi White (wife's car)
Triumph Stag (my 1975 V8 toy - 37,600 miles... Just started its 2nd restoration... had it since 1986)

Tiguan Summit (gone, but nice car)
Porsche Boxster (gone, it was too fast)
SLK (gone, did not like it - lost loads £s)
Discovery Cairngorm (gone,very tractor like)
+ loads of other cars

Interesting post for me this one as over the last 3 weeks I've been working over the other side of town so been sat in traffic a lot, when not in traffic been driving like miss daisey to try hit the next set of traffic lights right. Its returned a dismal 18 mpg every week Big Cry
Thinking I had a problem I had a free day so took it for a run' it returned the highest figure I've had on the dash yet 38mpg ( trying to get the best from it ).under what I would call normal driving on the same run it returned 33mpg.now back in town every day its slowley dropping again Big Cry

Before the town work it would as a rule give me 28 mpg.

I agree that there's something a miss here. As NPinks and a few others have said, only very short journeys in stop start traffic should yield results that low. Do you do lots of longer journeys? You're not towing either are you?

A spreadsheet I have for ours shows it's averaged 33mpg over 35000 miles, 2009 auto HSE. I have had occasional tanks in the low 20's but only with short journeys in winter, and whilst towing in a bit of a hurry!

In my experience of remaps, not on an LR but a few others, if you drive in exactly the same way, a 10% increase is possible, but it depends who does the remap. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

During term time with lots of short school/pre-school runs, we average about 350 miles to a tank (about 23-24mpg).

Over half term with a few longish motorway trips to chessington and legoland, I got 550 miles to a tank (about 36-37mpg).

I've had 280 miles to a tank before but that was over a couple of weeks where the car was used exclusively for school runs where the engine never has a chance to warm up.

Thank you for all your replies maybe ill get it plugged into the diagnostics to see if there's anything going on there. Also .... Is it possible to have the rear prop removed so that its only 2 wheel drive for the summer months? I know someone who would do it for me but it just depends weather it's actually possible or not. Thanks everyone

forget removing the prop- something is wrong ! my auto will do between 29 town driving 33-37 average and 42.2 on long steady run.

You are iether driving really hard or something is wrong

Ok so the pics above are from a manual one but i can assure you my auto does ok.

I only get 22.9 when I'm towing nearly 2 tons of caravan in 40 degree temperatures in France and Spain
Hopefully you will get the idea
