2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
REPLACED CAM SHAFT+HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP STILL WONT START

just new to here because of the above problem and looking for any help at all

have a landrover freelander2 td4 2007 model and a few weeks ago while driving on motorway got a reduced engine performance error message before cutting out completely
once towed discovered that the fuel pump was broken and in turn cam shaft had snapped like many of the posts i have just read on here - my mechanic has replaced the high pressure fuel pump and cam shaft and has managed to recover all broken peices from inside the engine - however it still wont start
when connected to diagnostic no error codes are showing at all - there is however a "pending" code p2564 which suggests Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low v - this doesnt seem to be the case either Sad

anyone got any ideas at all - at my wits end with it and running up large labour costs trying to get repaired

It cranks and doesn't start, or not even cranks?
For the engine to start properly it should receive valid signals from 2 sensors. The crankshaft sensor AND camshaft sensor.
The camshaft sensor is used for synchronizing with cylinder 1. Maybe, when the mechanic worked on camshafts disturbed or missed to connect the camshaft sensor. See that it's a procedure for positioning the replaced or reused sensor. See below.

hiya

thanks for your prompt reply Smile called the mechanic for an update and he gave me this additional information

the starter motor is turning the and engine is cranking when trying to start - it sounds normal - just wont fire Confused

the camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor multi plugs are correctly fitted. The mechanical voltage on both sensors has been tested and gave correct voltage resistance readings

fuel pressure on fuel rail reading is between 340 and 380 bar

no error codes showing on snap-on solus pro diagnostic machine (latest software version) other than the pending code p2564

any ideas Sad

The correct position and distance of the camshaft sensor in relation with the cam sprocket?

yeah sorry - right after i replied - had just forwarded to mechanic to look at - all double dutch to me Sad
have called and suggested it after i seen the sizes on diagram
fingers, toes and anything else i can cross that it solves the problem Smile

still not starting and mechanic reports back that sensor in correct position/distance in relation to cam sproket

losing the will to live lol

spoke to mechanic and getting plenty of fuel so he said no need for easy start
still chuckling at my lack of knowledge Smile

Easy start is like crack to a druggie all it will want is more and more untill its hooked.Years ago when I was a nipper one of the old tractors on the farm would not start untill it had its fix of easy start even when it was warm.

Hi,

are you getting a white smoke from exhaust while attempting to start ? If not there is no injedcted fuel if you get this smoke there might be a compression or timing issue.Which "other mechanical parts" had the mechanic replaced ?

...it is not unusual that before the HP pump gives up it sends chips into the fuel lines and these chips might block or damage the injectors...fingers crossed this is not your issue Sad

I would recommend a quick diagnostic plug in to read fuel rail pressure to see if rail pressure is building at cranking to required level. Sounds like it has a compression issue or cam/ crank correlation issue.
May be worth checking the throttle flap hasn't jammed shut ! Bit coincidental but should be checked.
