Well the ratio is 1:200 so about 330ml for a Freelander and if your tank is close to 80 litres then about 390ml. (All approximate figures before someone pulls me up on the maths)

I'm leaning towards using it myself once I get it at the right price, unfortunately I need the FC spec and I believe there are benefits as far as combustion is concerned.

The FC is for FL2's with a DPF like mine and is semi-synthetic. There is also a FD spec full synthetic but is not compatible with the DPF, besides it costing more.

Maybe so,I havent come across it.FD semi synthetic has the same properties as FC but with greater detergency.Didnt think that would help block the DPF.Hence the query.

Hi I have a 5 month old SE SD4 Auto. Does anybody know whether the fuel supplied in Australia, (I use Caltex Vortex Diesel) is a similar quality to that of Europe. I am thinking of adding 2 stroke, I am pretty sure I don't have a DPF and I notice the discussion re mineral and semi synthetic. If I used semi synthetic without a DPF would this cause a problem?

Throughout the thread we have had a few summary's, here's another.

To be clear, I am no expert on this and I don't know what camp I sit in yet, but I do believe there are some benefits so my answers are purely down to having read every post in this thread.

1) It is claimed in this thread that fully synthetic FD spec will block the DPF in time, yes it can have a lower 'ash' content than FC or be completely 'ashless', but it has an increased 'gumminess' that will adhere to high temperature surfaces such as the DPF.
2) FB spec is preferred in non DPF simply because it is a cheaper mineral oil and will do the job, but if that isn't available then FC spec semi synthetic oil is good also.
3) FB mineral oil spec 'ash' content is not low enough to use in a DPF machine, use FC spec.
4) It is widely known/claimed that 2SO helps combustion efficiency and helps stop carbon build up.
5) The jury is still out on it's pre-combustion lubrication benefits with the use of low sulphur fuel, such as fuel pump etc.
6) The ratio to use is 1:200, roughly 330ml for a full tank in a FL2.

One person claimed that his diesel engine now sounds like a petrol, I personally believe he suffered acute hearing loss and should be more worried about his health than his car.

Just try it and see for yourself, it will do no harm and may do some good.

The warning for FD spec is for fully synthetic.I have some semi synthetic JASO FD which I would like to try.

The FD standard is for very high reving 2 stroke engines and contains additives for that purpose. The poster who put up the warning to say do not use it believes it will harm the DPF. Clearly it's your choice whether or not you decide to use it.

Went to get you some 2so today EY, but unfortunately tesco garage in Ipswich has upped the price to £8 a litre now. Sorry mate.
