Fair point, but if the lubricity of diesel is now at the pre low sulphur level I can't really see the point of doing it. Many years ago I had a Mercedes Benz E300 TD and the handbook suggested adding petrol to the diesel in the winter to avoid the dreaded thick gel that could form at low temperatures. That idea ended a long time ago when fuel suppliers ensured the correct low temperature additives where in diesel, so the idea of adding petrol has gone. It certainly isn't mentioned for my VW Golf tdi or my BMW 320d.

Ask a chemist I would suggest. I use a cleaning mix supplied by a LR Indie who buys it in 50 gallon oil drums from Mobil oil (I think) but not in every tank fill, 1 small amount to every 3 tank fills.

So thought I'd try this after a lot of reading. I've got a healthy doubt about snake oil and car additives in general, but hey, I'll try it.

After adding 250ml 2SO per tank for eight months and about 15,000 miles, I’d agree with your first and second points but can show no real evidence of any benefit to MPG - mine was sitting around the 36-37mpg through the winter and 38-40 since the weather warmed up (both figures with the climate control constantly switched to Auto). It may be, though, that 2SO can provide an improvement to MPG for your style/use, that I don’t get with mine. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Found all this talk of TSO really interesting. So from when I got my 2008 2nd hand 2 years ago I have always added it to my fill ups.
