100k done by pepole i know and 30k done by me and i still wait
For the injectors to fail, even performance reduction did not occur, how disapointing Cool

Fair point, but if the lubricity of diesel is now at the pre low sulphur level I can't really see the point of doing it. Many years ago I had a Mercedes Benz E300 TD and the handbook suggested adding petrol to the diesel in the winter to avoid the dreaded thick gel that could form at low temperatures. That idea ended a long time ago when fuel suppliers ensured the correct low temperature additives where in diesel, so the idea of adding petrol has gone. It certainly isn't mentioned for my VW Golf tdi or my BMW 320d.

Perhaps two stroke oil was worth doing once, but I suspect those days are over.

Glad your vehicles are OK,

Kind regards,

Chris.

Tech report - worth reading. Report post
Regarding an earlier post, the peer reviewed evidence in the technical report here:

http://www.fuelexpert.co.za/2-stroke-oil-i...-study.php

(particularly the information on damage caused to the injectors by the presence of zinc) has convinced me not to use 2T oil in my fuel. I can do without causing unnecessary damage to my Freelander which I suspect would cost quite a lot to put right.

Best wishes to all,

Chris."

interesting " (particularly the information on damage caused to the injectors by the presence of zinc"
Complete twaddle
Zinc will help lubricate the pintle. Confirmed by a diesel injector specialist today who rebuild diesel injectors everyday.
He claims Zinc will be good and help substitute for less lubricant and the lower sulphur.
My Merc has now covered over 164,000 miles in 4 years and has run on TSO from new, only ever recorded 2 attempted regens and it manages over 30K between services as the oil stays so much cleaner.

Used TSO in my previous Freelander a while ago and thinking using it again in my current one
Last time I used TSO it was easy enough to get with JASO spec FC, but it seems a lot of TSO is now JASO spec FD
Am thinking the FD would be as good as the previous FC spec but would appreciate any thoughts / comments Freelander 2

FD spec is even higher in detergents so guess it will keep it even cleaner. I use FD spec myself Jaguar x-type sport gone

Blue Chem and TSO

Hi everyone

Having used 2SO for a year plus, I had an experience that I wonder has a logical explanation behind it - having a can of Blue Chem Common Rail Diesel System Clean & Protect lying around, I used it for my next fill (without adding 2SO this time).

This resulted in multiple times of "reduced engine performance". A change of fuel filter and the Freely was back to normal and revving/accelerating normally.

My question is did the combination of Blue Chem and residual 2SO (whatever's left in the tank) mess up the fuel filter?

Thank you,
Darren

Ask a chemist I would suggest. I use a cleaning mix supplied by a LR Indie who buys it in 50 gallon oil drums from Mobil oil (I think) but not in every tank fill, 1 small amount to every 3 tank fills.

Alternatively take a sample of each and mix with some fuel and note the result.

So thought I'd try this after a lot of reading. I've got a healthy doubt about snake oil and car additives in general, but hey, I'll try it.

JASO-FB grade Mineral 2-Stroke (barely any FC in this country... it's all FD semi-synth now, so might try that next). 250ml on full tank. I don't have DPF.

1. Immediately quieter engine as soon as i pulled up to the first set of lights - that diesel rattle has gone away. I've even been driving around with the windows open just to listen to it (and it's winter!).

2. Throttle seems a touch more responsive... smoother revving. Probably won't even notice by end of the week as it'll become the norm.

3. MPG... Bit early to tell. My car always calculates 0.2-0.4mpg better than my calculated. The 30miles done so far i'd normally be sitting around 30.5mpg. Reading 32.6mpg. Want to do a whole tank before i make any calls on this one though. Will report back. But if that's right, that's a $6 saving at the pump for $3.50 of 2-Stroke on a $90 tank of diesel. Buying oil in larger volumes would obviously improve any savings.

Will continue to use this 1Litre bottle over next 3 fills and report back. So far nothing bad to say, and only tentatively good.

After adding 250ml 2SO per tank for eight months and about 15,000 miles, I’d agree with your first and second points but can show no real evidence of any benefit to MPG - mine was sitting around the 36-37mpg through the winter and 38-40 since the weather warmed up (both figures with the climate control constantly switched to Auto). It may be, though, that 2SO can provide an improvement to MPG for your style/use, that I don’t get with mine. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Spain

Found all this talk of TSO really interesting. So from when I got my 2008 2nd hand 2 years ago I have always added it to my fill ups.
When I bought the car it had just had it's ITV (Spanish MOT) 2 years on its just had another.
My emissions in 2016 were 0.55
2 years on emissions are 0.09
So as for fuel economy etc I don't know, but it's definitely cleaner!

Pretty happy with the adding of the 2-stroke.

MPG results from last 7 fills, last 3 with 2-Stroke:

Fuel savings of ~nz$4 a tank, so it's paying for itself. This current fill i didn't put it in, and 40miles in it's louder and rougher already. I'll be swinging by the pumps to top up and adding it again today.

I have been using low ash FD spec TSO in all my diesels with DPF's for years.
My Merc covered 376000 miles from new on low ash TSO without needing any repairs to the engine/diesel system apart from oil changes.
My Transit 2.2 runs so much smoother & quieter and ever since running on TSO its got rid of an annoying hesitation and serious turbo lag, now reached 112,000 no problem
FR2 just runs perfick and so sweet and quiet Jaguar x-type sport gone
