Does anyone choose the S model?

Hi everyone,

Well i'm still looking. Still waiting for Stratstone to move a freelander from one site to another. It's taken over a week and still not here. (I haven't driven to see it at the original location as i keep getting promised, it's on it's way).
Anyway, ive started to look again.

I just wondered how many people on here have the S model? I don't really need the satnav or reversing sensors and have found a nice black 10 reg with privacy glass but it's only the S model.

Does everyone avoid the S model as it doesnt seem to have many add ons.

Just wondering Smile

my advice would be if you actually see the vehicle, drive it, etc and it meets your needs, go for it.

mine is an HSE, but I like the extra toys and it does make the driving experience more comfortable, but it's whatever you are happy with, and can afford.

I was originally going to look at two 2007 S FL2's but at the last minute found a GS for a similar price so chose to buy it.

I would, however, have been happy with one of the 'S' models - I don't off road, have used the Cruise Control a couple of times, doesn't have the satnav anyway. The only thing I would have missed was the fog lights - as I live on the east coast Confused

I totally agree with Iain - if you like it then go for it - after all it's you who'll be driving it not us. Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

Thanks chaps. I do like the black s model i found a lot but it's 3 hours away (autotrader distance was nearly 70 miles incorrect). I'm back on autotrader now Rolling Eyes
Ive had cruise in my last 3 cars but didnt try it once so i know i don't need that. There seems to be loads of grey ones around

Went to guy salmon on Sunday to get a price etc. Just rang him back and it's gone up £500 from Sunday. Who would think that it would be so difficult.

4x4's and similar vehicles will normally suffer from seasonal price changes - it's all to do with the weather and the availability of them.

I bought mine in February when the weather was nice Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

I'm p/x ing a 4x4 kia sportage 2010 though. He said he had 'miscalculated' and they had brought the car in at the wrong price.

I think that they make it up as they go along sometimes Rolling Eyes

Still a big improvement, S or otherwise.

The 2011 model year "S" represents phenomenal value for money; it has all the essential bits, with the exception of bluetooth telephone connection (which is vital for me, but may not be important for you) and it's even blessed with 16" wheels, which are far more appropriate for off road use. Other than that, if all I could have afforded was an S, I would have been very happy all the same.

My only serious concern would be that the 2010 model year S may not come with Terrain Response; I don't know about you, but one of the major reasons for buying a Freelander for me was to keep getting to work through the snow when it arrives this year (I live on Bodmin Moor) and I wouldn't want to do without the Terrain Response.

PS: AS a matter of interest, why are you changing from the Kia to the Freelander (apart from reasons of good taste and breeding, obviously!) Wink

I am changing from a kia to a freelander as i wanted a freelander back in April when we got the kia. My husband was supposed to be driving the kia but has now said that it's too big for him to park at work and has bought a smaller car. I just said in passing sort of thing, oh if id have known that i was going to end up with the kia, id have bought a freelander so he said, oh get one then if you like (he does spoil me ha) so that is how i've ended up looking for one after only owning the kia since April Smile

Im waiting for Guy Salmon to ring me back on a GS model. We live down a lane in Lincolnshire and was stuck for about 3 weeks last year when it snowed and that's why we got the 4x4 for this winter so i'm wondering if the S without the added terrain response thingy would be enough for snow and ice Smile

Im hoping i can do a deal with guy salmon in the morning but we will see

Interesting. Good luck tomorrow.

I wouldn't say that the lack of TR would render it useless in the snow but, as getting through in the snow is important to you, you might as well make sure that you've got the feature before you commit.

Thanks Tigger. I think i'll wait for the GS. It's an XS i've got a deposit on at Stratstones but their 'customer service' has been appalling up to now so we think we are cancelling it. It's only coming from another site not too far away and is still not here. They promised it Friday, Saturday, Monday and today and still not here and when i ring, i feel like they are laughing as they fob me off.

Terrain response is not a big deal and is really a gimmick. Careful use of the right foot and it's not needed as the FL2 has traction control anyway. Never used it on my FL2 or D3 and doubt I'll use it on the D4 either.

At the end of the day it's down to personal choice and available funds.

Hi there, I recently purchased a 59 reg s model previously having 2 freelander one models and am very happy with it.Was orginally looking for a gs model but picked up a low mileage 23k for only £13500.Have just put roof rails on it and side moulding and am really happy, the only thing i would change are the wheels which i intend to do next year.So my advice is go for it.

I beg to differ after I took my training course at Land Rover's Honiton off road training course during the summer. I spent half a day continually driving around their course with one of their instructors, including attempts in each of the TR modes and could certainly feel the difference in the way the car reacted in each of the modes. I too would have dismissed it as a gimmick until they proved the differences to me.
