Not sure about the depreciation either.

The Fiesta ST would be worth about 40% at 5 years and assuming the Leaf depreciates the same (and not more as indicated by searches) then the Leaf will have lost about £4K more than the Fiesta.

But I think Im going to book a test drive in a Leaf as Ive not driven an electric vehicle other than fork lifts. Jules

Looking at the Nissan site, the nearest equivalent Leaf to the ST is about £32K including the Government grant. Jules

Just a thought - what do you do if you make a error (get lost on the Yorkshire Moors for instance ) and run out of electrons in your EV. How do you get home ? Its not like a local farmer or the AA can give you a can of electrons to see you get home. Jules

Well maybe you keep a Honda generator in the boot?

When they start using electric wagons (ulw 40 tonnes, payload 4 tonnes) that's when electric cars should appear.

Until that time arrives, the only electric vehicles should be the ones that deliver the milk

The first generation leaf, 2011 - 2017 looks like some kind of electric bubble car, it has a smaller battery. I can see why they won't keep their value as much

The 2018 leaf looks like any other hatchback on the road. It has a bigger battery and a load of improvements. It's got a broader appeal.

These days with sat nav, I don't think many people take a wrong turn and drive around for hours.
The standard 2018 leaf has about 160 mile range, you have to plan your trip around that, stop off and charge when you can. Worst case scenario is that you have to pull out your 3 pin charger and plug in to where ever you can or you call the breakdown service and get picked up.

It's not a Tesla, it's not designed to keep going and going. The leaf is designed for most people that drive around the city. In Leeds there's quite a few Leaf taxis.

Like anything in life, you can't judge it until you've experienced it. I've not heard of anyone buying an EV, hating it and going back to an ICE car as their daily vehicle.

For that you'll need to read the Tesla owner reviews.

With an electric car you have instant power all the time. Theres no gears, no delays.

Theres plenty of info around now about where electric cars perform better and the pros and cons of them. Watch a few YouTube videos.

The future for the average driver is electric, hybrid and small petrol engines. It won't be that long before diesel is only being used for larger commercial vehicles.

Well, having looked at the Tesla info.
I cannot think of any vehicle less suited to my needs.

I will stick with my nice driving position, soft leather heated seats, armrests, heated steering wheel, bright headlamps,

All paid for, will last for at least 10 years,

Lovely diesel

Oh, nearly forgot,it’s great in snow, water and mud

Oh well 100,000 pounds. It is then.

I assume this magic car has the same ground clearance as my metropolis then for fording the river to get to my holiday home

God knows how a battery driven car offers a better driving experience, my 1933 Morris Ten gives you a driving experience that some might say is better, but I don’t.

Tesla seems to remind me of other unusual cars like the Citroen Maserati, the Rover turbine or the Austin Atlantic,Delorean etc

The metropolis suits me fine & dandy,

Nearly forgot..........don’t these Tesla’s have a special heating system.................fire? Rolling with laughter

Oh my goodness, just read up on the financial position of Tesla.
All joking apart.

I hope all you Tesla enthusiasts haven’t invested in Tesla shares.
Tesla seem to be in a very poor financial position, will they still be here in 10 years?

Some of you are still 5 -10 years behind with your thinking. Electric cars are not just toys for the rich or for eco warriors that drive 10 miles a day. Thousands of people now use them as their every day car, I'm one of those.

I think a bigger issue that isn't often talked about is the amount of electric needed to power all these cars. The UK would meltdown if we all switched to electric cars overnight, we can't produce anywhere near enough power. And the government makes a lot of money from selling us fossil fuels, that will have to come from somewhere. Then there's all the batteries the world has to produce for these cars.

It's an exciting time, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over the next few years.

Think I remember seeing an article about EV charging points being powered by diesel generators hidden behind fences.
