I agree and apparently the other manufacturers wanted to go down the same route for mainly aerodynamic reasons but didn't have the market clout to make it happen so waited for Ford to do it. I had one on 1983 as a company car and it was a good motorway cruiser but got a lot of negative comments as it was such a departure from current styling norms. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

True, it was a rather bold move styling wise, but proved to be the right direction as everyone else followed.

Although, like the FL2 to the DS, the Sierra was replacing a much loved car with something that no one had asked for. The Sierra pushed the boundaries in the way that Ford thought was the future and I’d argue it wasn’t.
