That's really helpful - thanks. Looks just to be on the line between minor and major.. |

it will be down to the angle the nail has gone in, but more likely, it will be down to the fitter needing to meet sales targets too, sucking through his teeth as he says its not repairable Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

Very true. I'll prob take it to an indy tyre place and see what they say. Repairs are £25 now at KwikFit |

This is interesting. I have just lost a 5 or 6 month old near perfect winter tyre thanks to a puncture on the sidewall (so in the major repair area according to that diagram).

Fair dos. If that's the case then fine. Not worth the risk. Just annoying. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

You can get a 'major' repair done to the sidewall but you'd have to send it away probably - it'd have to be a decent tyre to be worthwhile though. I'd say the tyre in the OP is borderline. The reason you can't go too near the sidewall is because the patch of the mushroom patch mustn't lap onto the sidewall as it may flex too much and come loose. In a case like that, I'd trim a small amount off the patch to end up with a 'D' shaped patch but only if it was absolute borderline. You'd need to centre the patch over the internal penetration hole to make a decision. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I would try to get it fixed and use it as a spare. I take the view that a new tyre costs say £100 new then if a repair to a half worn tyre costs say £20 then that represents 40% of the tyre value and don't forget that the more a tyre is worn the more likely to puncture again. Get a new one (says he spending someone else's money) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My spare has had a side wall repair. Previous owner must have done it.
