Wow, Kippers turnout was in the millions, but less than in the EU elections.

Funnily enough, Farage is quite an icon here - after his various speeches in Brussels.

Thumbs Up

It's not just the Conservatives majority that surprised many but also the onslaught of the SNP and the near demise of the Lib Dems.

Red Ed, Farage and Cleggy all resign and key names such as Ed Balls lose their seats. The stock market has responded positively and CNN reports on a positive reaction across the pond and messages of support from The White House. Other key leaders have added their congratulations and invited Cameron for new talks on the EU.

This has been an interesting election and it will stand out for years to come. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Yes, it has been interesting today. Personally, I'm happy with the results and not surprised the Lib Dems took a hammering. Cleggy had his moment of glory being deputy prime minister but it did a lot of damage to the party!

Agreed Doc, an interesting election indeed! I must admit, I was concerned at what would be the outcome and am pleased at the result for England. The "silent majority" has spoken! However, it looks like there will be more "interesting" times ahead though in achieving the "one nation" of the PM's speech in Downing St. The "noisy majority" north of the border and the smaller parties will not let things rest. #barnett formula #FPTP/PR. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I guess we can put Lib Dems under the stupid banner on that front then. There was a woman from the party whose name escapes me now, on Sky News last night and when confronted with the exit polls, virtually dismissed them and said she would be very surprised if they ended up with 10 seats...

That went well Lib Dems Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I would have preferred to see a continuation of the coalition to ensure the Tories don't drift further right. It does concern me slightly that the more extreme factions within the Tories can now exert more influence.

I'm happy with a center right or center left government, as long as they stay pretty close to the center. And I think a movement back and forth between those through election cycles serves us well.

I'm of the view that we need a healthy and functioning left and right. I'm hoping the left can get themselves sorted for 2020 to provide a viable alternative. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

There is absolutely no such thing as a 'healthy and functioning' Left. It simply DOESN'T exist. Tax, spend and borrow more....that's the Left through and through. Look at Milipede's ridiculous stunt with the Moses slab just a few days ago! I would rather trust the SNP than Labour...on pretty much anything! And that says it all!! Foraging near Gaydon....

Er... "tax spend and borrow more"? Did you see Osborne's pre-election promises?
I think you'll find that the last government taxed more (raised VAT) and borrowed more (because their policies reduced the expected tax income). They may well have spent more as well, given their need to give massive subsidies to private landlords via the housing benefit they have to give to the "hardworking families" who aren't paid enough.
They may have succeeded in getting the economy going again, in which case they may be able to reduce all of these. Most economists seem to believe now though that extra spending on the economy (and thus higher tax and borrowing) would aid the recovery and enable them to reduce the deficit.
Given that I'm in the fortunate position of being a home-owning pensioner, I'm fairly insulated from it all (the Daily Mail will ensure I'm looked after!) but it will be interesting to see how it goes over the next five years. I'm not hopeful. Crying or Very sad Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Yes, the party that hates everything and everyone British. Marxist tossers. I opened a bottle of Proper Job at 8:30am to celebrate the c-unit Ball's demise.....and kept steadily imbibing throughout the morning as the Left were firmly put to the sword. Sanity prevailed across the Country eventually. Laughing Foraging near Gaydon....
