I have had closer to 50mpg its mostly down to Driving technique, I am a HGV Driving Instructor and also teach what is called Eco Driving or otherwise known as SAFED safe and fuel efficient driving. Try not to stop keep the vehicle moving do not accelerate up to a red light or traffic que. do block gearchanges missing out 3rd and 5th dont change down through the box when stopping or use the gearbox as a brake a set of pads is cheaper than a gearbox. 2013 FL2 XS. Hi Rommel, I have just read your post and it reminded me of my ambulance training with the driving instructor bellowing at you saying "Gears are for going and brakes are for stoping" and heaven forbid if you got it wrong.

Very interested in this thread. Although after 17 years of Disco 1 and zDisco 2 the fact that my average fuel use has never been below 25mpg. Have had 4o on 150 mile round trip. To me this is great and quite happy to live with the mpg. Money back in pocket. Jim A

The trip computer is currently hovering around 35.7mpg as an average for the last week or so, trips mainly back and forth to the office (motorway and some urban).

Had a longer run for work last week, South Wales to Salisbury (via Pontypool) and back and the old lie-o-meter showed an average of over 41mpg for the trip. Was nearer 42mpg for most of it but the works on the M4 near Cardiff at the moment saw to that. Andrew

OK so this is an old video but the principles are the same and can be applied to cars with a manual box though all trucks now are mostly auto, the thing is maintain momentum where possible and avoid coming to a complete stop by reading the traffic and road ahead.

Travelling from M1 J28 up to M1 J35, i reset the MPG as i went down the slip road, set the cruise to 74mph (which i know is 70mph via separate GPS), decreased that to 62mph passed Sheffield Meadowhall, and the lie-ometer was showing 52mpg.

My last fill was on 7 May at £1.799 - £109.70; three weeks before that it was £1.739 so where did the supposed reduction go?
