Alright, I have to ask the question - is my MPG normal?

I have just picked up a late 2014 SD4 SE Tech auto with 55k on the clock. Lovely car.

However I haven't been able to get the average mpg from the trip computer above 24.5mpg. That includes a decent drive back from the garage on A roads and motorway. I generally drive short local drives so I'm aware the mpg will be poor, but I wasn't expecting this.

Battery was replaced so I'm assuming that will have reset the trip and any averages it has, yet it still hovers around 24.4mpg.

Can't see any split hoses etc under the bonnet.

Is this a genuine mpg or may something be wrong? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I know it might sound daft, but you might have a binding brake caliper...

After a drive check and see if any of the wheels are particularly warm...

Also, when was the fuel filter last changed and thd air filter for that matter.

Even with a FSH things get 'missed'

My previous FL2's owner had paid for a 2 year service plan, but the the air filter was pretty black and had quite an old date stamp in it!

I haven’t been able to detect any overly warm wheels sadly.

I will check the filter - can that really make that much of a difference?

Cheers. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Have you manually reset the trip computer? There is an A and B trip which records long term data and another one which records every journey which is the one I use to give an idea of mpg on every trip. Had it showing 39 mpg yesterday on an early Sunday morning journey with light traffic. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

No, I’ve not manually reset any trips, I just assumed that would have happened when the battery was replaced.
However even watching the miles until empty it’s dropping like 2 miles less than every mile travelled. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Just going to suggest you read the live data for the O2 sensor.

Have you tried putting a full bottle of RedX in a quarter tank.

It might be a good idea to reset both A and B trips to zero and get a fresh reference point.

If you leave B trip running it should eventually settle down to about 31+ mpg (indicated) overall.

In the mean time monitor a few journeys with A trip, I would expect 33+ mpg on a run of 20+ miles, and 27++ mpg around town.
The very best my SD4 will do is approaching 40 mpg on a motorway cruise ( about 65 mph indicated)

Heavy electrical use (electrical heater, heated windows, seats, steering wheel, and lights) and/or Air-con will knock several mpg off your running total, even when cruising.

Also I note that the Auto Fl2s will hang on to lower gears, to help it recharge the battery, for example after a (cold?) start. Running short journeys to shops, etc, on cold winter mornings gives me mid 20s mpg, but at least my FL2 keeps me nice and warm. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

You could also reset the auto gearbox so that it 'learns' your driving style.

FWIW
My trip B says 32.7 mpg (2014 SD4 SE Tech with 56K miles)

Most of the miles were done on motorways where 36mpg is normal for me but could go over 40mpg at a steady 50mph (M6 roadworks etc).
The average is brought down by chugging up and down the Yorkshire Dales and a relatively few short journeys with a cold engine around home, plus a bit of towing a heavy trailer. Jules

For the record - I have just looked at my trip readings.

MY15 Metro SD4 Auto 66k miles

Trip B (running for my 50k mile ownership)
Ave Speed 29mph Ave Fuel 33.3mpg

Trip A (set at current refuel)
Miles run 316miles Dist to Empty 161miles Ave Speed 32mph Ave Fuel 34.4mpg (range 477 miles??)

I live in a small town, near motorway, and main use is for day trips. So mixture is motorway, cross country rural A & B roads, very little short journey town use. Car load normally quite high with 2 people, and at least one disability scooter.
