Slap a bit of CV grease in there, push it back in, reclip the boot using a large (or two small) cable ties. The inners work about 5% as hard as the outers so no real problems.

The RAC removed my filter for fault diagnosis, on refit he just got me to switch on the ignition but not start the engine. He explained this would prime the fuel pump.
That only works on an FL1

It’s not just FL2's that have that problem. Any motor with a serpentine belt and a spring loaded tensioner is susceptible to the alternator clutch/pulley seizing.

The clutch on the alternator pulley has siezed. Take the belt off. You should be able to turn the alternator one way only. Turn it the other way and the pulley will 'slip'. If you can turn it both way ...
