Wow, they look more like commercial vehicle rates. Just goes to prove there is always someone worse off than you. They have my sympathy, I feel we are going back to the early 1900's when only the very rich could afford motor cars. |

New car tax here in Belgium is a rip off, the thing here is, even if you buy a 2nd hand car, you still pay the new tax again. I think it is around $2000 euro for an auto FL2. Think you buy a 2nd hand car at the book price, then plus 2k to the goverment. I know we pay more in road tax for an old golf tdi 90bhp here than we do for our FL2 which is has UK plates.

Yep, that way too, although I prefer the bloodshed method. The sight of the ConDems facing a firing squad is very appealing. Danny Alexander is particularly annoying as is Nick Cleg. I was reading Danny boys expenses, he buys Kettle Balsamic Crisps by the bucketload, I am surprised he's not like a house end and how come he gets to claim back subsidised House of Commons meals? I know if I go out to work, I have to take sandwiches or pay for food. It's appauling. And, did you know George Osborne has never had a job ever? It was MP and then Chancellor, not that him and his multimillionaire MP pals need it. They wont be worried about Tax or fuel prices. It makes you sick. |

Past master People don't come here to avoid taxation - just ask Phil Collins or a near neighbour Tina Turner. Compared to the sieve like personal taxation avoidance rules/schemes that proliferate in the UK it is very hard indeed to structure a personal taxation avoidance scheme here in CH that's legal. What folks often misunderstand is that whilst direct taxation of income is relatively low in CH compared to the UK we have very high rates of cost of living, for example: 1: In the UK you pay no VAT on children's clothes or books or newpapaers or train tickets, or food. Here we do. In fact we pay VAT on almost everything you buy. 2: In the UK you have the NHS. Here for example I pay each month for our 3 member family ≈GBP683 per month in health insurance - plus - we have to pay the first ≈GBP1,250pa of any claim per person - and thereafter 10% of any additional health costs. 3: In the UK for example you do not pay tax pa on the market value of your vehicle and house. Here it is classified as an asset and depending where you live you pay "estate" tax per vehicle/house per year. Where I live this is ≈3%pa. 4: Etc Etc However Corporations/Companies can take advantage of very low taxation regimes re capital gains. This is why due to lax UK corporate taxation laws Barclays recently paid into UK treasury a rate of ≈1% tax, and why last year Boots opened an office in Zug to circumvent UK corporation tax. They are not alone in doing this. For hard core Tories this is fair game because as Directors of these companies they benefit from these actions. That's Cameron's "Big Society". If your "Big" enough to cream off profits elsewhere (there are other global destinations more favourable than Switzerland) their (Tory) "Society" allows it. In reality Past-master, individuals come here for the quality of life rather than taxation issues. Low crime rates, low rates of violence against the individual, clean(ish) streets, on time - not cancelled trains/busses/trams etc., and, a healthy alpine environment. |

Yep, know what you mean. when I spend time in the States, normal holiday health insurance wont cover it. The Health Care insurance prices start at 500 quid for basic cover for a family of mun, dad and 3 kids and goes up to over 1300 quid a month depending on the level of cover. You pay 35/50 quid per doctor consultation, pay so much for drugs depending on which illness or disease they treat, the list is endless. The price you quote and the conditions are roughly similar. People take the NHS for granted. Just be thankfull you dont have to pay because if you did very few OAP's or even middle income families would have the means to see a Doctor or be treated. It would certainly cost more than the price of a new Freelander if someone in your family had complications. Something to ponder on until the next election! |
