Whats a FREELNADER? Rolling with laughter

The URL isn't working but keep clear of the old FL1's. Much trouble. I came to FL2 ownership from a facelifted FL1 TD4 which was fine. The early models had the XEDi Rover diesel or the horrific 1.8 petrol which is the main source of the reliability reputation. The V6 petrol was better but more for those who owned their own oil companies Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Laughing the odd slight leak, but as far as I know his only major problem was it going into limp mode after some dodgy fuel in France, which then transpired to be some sort of sensor failing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had one of the early ones - S reg manual diesel in black. Worked a treat, got me to Turkey and back, no problem except a lot of dollars to bribe my way through what was then Eastern Europe and a speeding fine in Turkey Evil or Very Mad
But they're getting a bit long in the tooth now and I don't think I'd go for even a recent one. Plus they are nowhere near the standard of the FL2 in just about every respect.
I had mine on a 3-year lease, and when I took it back they just lost the paperwork and parked it in a field for two years, so it ended up quite a "low mileage bargain"!

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

My '04 plate facelifted BMW engined TD4 auto was fault-free for 35,000 miles, when I traded it in.

It is one of a very select band of fault-free cars I have owned. My SD4 is not on that list. Trevor

Mexico 2013 LR2 2.0T HSE Lux Auto Havana

I have had 4 Freelander 1 since 2001; 2 KV6 (Mexico) and 2 TD4 Sport (Spain) all of them auto and with no major problems. It is not as refined like the FL2, but it has good ride quality and is capable affronting off road. I really love this car!!! Sometimes I am thinking to buy one in good shape, to conserve in the future.

It is a friendly car!! Thumbs Up Yuri

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Galway Green

Had TD4 manual from 2001 -2005. 100,000 miles . It was off-roaded many times.
In that time it had
Clutch cylinder failure (my fault but fixed under warranty anyway)
3 new injectors
I injector wiring loom ( think the garage broke this changing the injectors)
High pressure fuel pump
Overall it the only time It really let me down was when the fuel pump failed. Actually I didn't think that was bad for 100,000 miles
but then I had a D3 for 4 years that only had 1 egr fitted out side of servicing and never once had a handbrake issue so maybe I am just lucky.
But they are getting long in the tooth now and would touch nothing but the TD4

Anyway if you have plans to go off road, on any MY (98 to now) Freelander 1 or 2, it is better with auto gearbox, as any car without low range gearbox.
If not, may you will change some clutchs. Yuri

I had a 2002 TD4, had it for over 4 years and no major issues, air con condensor packed up just after warrenty, but was never happy with its clutch which is one reason why I went for the FL2 auto. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

I had a 50th Anniversary model ( 1998 )..................it was a beautiful car, a 1.8 petrol, but it was losing water and I suspect the head gasket was going, I traded it in for a disco 2

I had 2 Freelander 1's. 1.8 Petrol and a 2.5 V6 both beautiful and very few problems.

Went from the 2.5 v6 to a Peugeot 407 - whatta mistake to make Big Cry - all rectified now though back in the Freelander fold! Very Happy Thumbs Up
