Roof Bars/Rails

I need to carry Ladders occasionally, far too scared to purchase & fit LR Rails then have to buy Cross Bars.
Seen some Thule Bars that do not need Rails to fix to, has anyone fitted them and if so is there a particular model for the twin sun roofs, I dont want to have to drill holes. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

I used Thule ones on my previous Freelander 2 without any problems. Got mine from www.roofbox.co.uk. You will need the cross bars and the feet check out the link below for options.

I looked into it and found that to get nice looking rail and crossbars it would end up costing close to what my L dealer could do them for. The difference in price I put dwn to being the genuine item and looking pretty good.

I fitted them myself and had no problems and they are very ncely made...

I did come close to getting some Thule ones, but the the ones I liked actually cost more by the time I bought the bits and an adapter...

Good luck

I fitted prorack whispbars that I got from roofbox.co.uk and have been very pleased with them, I have left them on, no noise and no noticable change in fuel consumption, I got the PRS17's, worth looking in their bargain basement I got them for about £125 delivered and they were brand new. See thread here for pictures fitted.

Thanks for that link, I thought it was a bit more complicated.
I could easily take these off after use as I only want them to carry a 3 section Ladder occasionally. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

It takes about 5 minutes to fit/remove the Thule roofbars once you've got them adjusted to fit the first time.
It's really easy and as you say you can only fit them when needed which is what I do with mine.

Just bought the Thule 757 / 861 combo to go on the LR roof rails. Seems a quality product, but not driven with them yet.

Some confusing advise on the web (and in Halfords), but the parts that I have seem to fir ok.

Silly Question on Roof Bars

I have a 57 plate Freelander 2 TD4 with the dual Smile panoramic sunroof. I want to fit roof bars to take a roof box. do I need the roof rails from LR or can i just get the Thule bars from Roofbox.co.uk and fit them without the rail and cross bar kit?

any help would be appreciated

Matt.

You don't need the LR roof rails and cross bars. You can use the Thule ones from Roofbox.co.uk. You will need the feet and cross bars either standard or aero. Try this link for an idea of what you'll need.

Ok I've put Thule ones on, act like theold roof racks from times of old when they clipped to the rainwater trim and cost £20.
Nowadays the idea is the same but you pay upwards of £120.
On fitting beware... the instructions for thule are just about the worst I have ever seen, even Kitchen fitting packs are 100% better. following the diagramatic plan is impossible, you have to watch "You Tube" to get the right idea. (I write training manuals for Dummies and if they fool me then Joe Public aint got much hope of following them).
mind you, once assembled they look OK though I aint tried them yet. They do look as thought they are overhanging on the top of the door, time will tell if they are safe to carry my Ladders.
It is the cheaper of the options as if you go for the LR rails you still need the cross members to mount the roof box onto, with the thule ones you dont need the roof rails.
Thule ones however can be transfered to different vehicles by purchasing fitting kits for your new vehicle.(not always that simple but you get what I mean). Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.
