In my manual variant, I change up at or before 2000rpm. This minimises turbo use. The low end torque is more than adequate for normal motoring in that range. Down hills, never coast in neutral/clutch in. I believe that the engine uses near zero fuel under engine braking conditions - select a suitable gear to get some engine braking at low rpm.

Thanks for the reply James. I should maybe have mentioned that my Freely's DPF was replaced just before the warranty ran out (today) and is now 3 years old and ca. 54000km. Therefore in my case not on a new vehicle as DervFan.

If it is the DPF: warm the car to normal running tempature then drive at a contstant speed above 30 mph for between 20 and 30 mins for example on a motorway. Stop the motor and wait for it to cool (about 10-15 mins or so) and restart. Hopefully the warning has gone and you will get normal running again - This is the normal DPF cleaning function described in the handbook page 117 except the last bit about turning off the engine, which is from personal experiance and advice given to me. If this dosnt work, its a visit to the dealer. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc. |

Maybe it is LR having a laugh, but may also be the EU with all their laws and regulations. There must be thousands that are in the same situation as Past master who own a vehicle with a DPF and live in an urban situation. The whole point is that we do not need DPF's at all but are forced to have them. However if the problem is just attributed to LR and they don't soon get a fix for the DPF system, my guess is there are going to be plenty of unhappy chappies out there .

Hmm. What are they like off-road? Seriously, I would consider it, but like most Londoners I'd need a few hundred metres of cable to link it from whatever spot I can find to park, up to my power point to charge it. And of course the local yobs would love that. And that's not to mention the neighbour who would "accidentally" trip over the cable and sue me. |
