Hi everybody,
I followed this thread for some time and hoped to get some hint or advice to solve the problem, which we are facing with our Freelander 2 car in Germany since 2007 already. I started the topic at the www.blacklandy.de forum in 2008, after having experienced problems with the exhaust filter system since then.
My car is a FL2 TD4 SE, from 05/2007, I took it from a LR dealer in 11/2008 at 27.000 km and faced the problem already after 4 weeks and 2.000 km driving by myself even a long tour included from Germany to Montenegro. The problems conitnues until now at 80.000 km - when LR Germany agreed to exchange the turbo charger, some valves and other parts and fixed the whole exhaust system once more in 06/2011 - more than 1 year after termination of warranty and free of charge. This is all they would do, although I desperately asked for removal of the whole system. Well, I am ready to change the car in, got a good offer for mine, however, there is some risk to face similar problems with the new model again, as I see and read now here. Thus, I shall continue the long time testing and hope that it would work out well at the end.
What we have learned over the last 3 years is to do the following:
- drive an automatic gear box, rather than a manual one
- drive at higher rpm than necessary with the manual gear box
- drive long distances once a while (weekly I would say)
- use best motor oil, not the old FORD/LR classification but an ACEA C3/4 classified oil
- drive best diesel quality
- choose a bakery in the next town, don't drive only short distance routs
- ask your dealer to check the whole system, sensors, tubes (may be broken) and other parts
- don't stop bothering your dealer again and again - until Landrover reacts.
Atrix has fouund a solution with some Italian engineering.
Others have open the filter element or have removed it completely.
I am still hoping to get it solved with the help of LR in the coming years - we will see.
It is a pity that such a great car is ruined by the damn particulate filter, which obviously does not work properly yet. I am sorry to read that you are facing similar problemes now - it rescued me from purchasing a new model right now, I shall wait until this technique is really working properly and in the meantime I wish you success in getting the problem fixed with the help of your dealers.
All the best
