Maybe they swapped the wrong part Or one going can lead to other going

just spoke to the garage and its the rear diff that gone, so i'm loan car till it comes in on back order

I wonder if your faulty PTS was giving you full time 4x4 resulting in the rear diff problems?
Were you getting bad MPG as well?
The rear diff shouldn't go like this, 93my and 98my Disco diesel were terrible for wearing out rear rear diff when M/wayed a lot due to the low gearing. This should not happen to FL2.
It would appear on the face of it that the rear diff doesn't like being used a lot.
But it should.

i don't think 1 mpg is enough. More like 8/10 mpg should be the difference between normal mode and perm 4x4. I get (man box) 40 ish mpg.
Nevertheless, i'd be interested as to why your rear diff has failed. Was this because it was locked in full time?
It shouldn't fail anyway.
Ask your dealer please as to why you need a new rear diff, i'd like to hear why.
And keep away from young mums!!!

I bet some of the engineering types will know the answer, but if the 4WD is only supposed to engage when there is a certain amount of slippage or under certain speeds that the diff on the rear isn't designed for "normal use" If is is either effective locked or not then the load on the drive train when cornering would knacker it in no time.

The old RR used to have a little light that would come on when you engaged low gear and the diffs locked. When you put is back on, the light would stay on until the diffs were unlocked. If I remember, you had to put the car in reverse to "unwind" the diff. If you drove with the light on at normal road speed the diffs would be wrecked in no time. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. still waiting on a diff from catterpillar and still no timescale on when they will have the orders in

Thought i would ring LRCS, as i am two weeks off from having a holiday away and i would be needing my tow bar for that, but they can't promise anything nor give me anything in the way of a hotel instead so the kids can have their last holiday of the year

said they will look at something as a possibility when the car is fixed, but until then i'll have to wait

Also said, which i don't believe, is there are no rear diff's on the production line either, if they was they would have pulled one off the line, so i guess the line is stood still waiting too I hope your not expecting your new one any time soon

The line normally uses JIT which is a fancy term for almost hand to mouth. I'm sure the line manager doesn't want to loose a rear diff no matter what, so a 'no' is hardly suprising.
Sounds like a lack of support to the spares division, possibly cos it's such an expensive part.
In any event, it's not good enough is it?
Maybe a few phone calls might be worth it, you've nowt to loose.
Unless they lend you a D4 with towbar!!!

I thought it was difficult to kerb alloys with our size of tyres.

There might be a chance that enterprise will have a LR towbared car, they have before, just my insurance company could not cover it as they had a £25k limit on Loan cars Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
